﴿وَلَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَرَفَعۡنَٰهُ بِهَا وَلَٰكِنَّهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُۚ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡكَلۡبِ إِن تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَيۡهِ يَلۡهَثۡ أَوۡ تَتۡرُكۡهُ يَلۡهَثۚ ذَّٰلِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَاۚ فَٱقۡصُصِ ٱلۡقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ﴾
[الأعرَاف: 176]
﴿ولو شئنا لرفعناه بها ولكنه أخلد إلى الأرض واتبع هواه فمثله كمثل﴾ [الأعرَاف: 176]
| Dr Kamal Omar And had We willed, surely We would have elevated him therewith but he clung to the earth (i.e., to the ‘low’) and followed his own vain desire. So his description (or example) is the description of a dog: if you put a load on him, he lolls his tongue out (as if heavily burdened, and) if you remove this (load) he (still) lolls his tongue out. Such is the description of the nation of those who belied Our Ayaat. So relate the incidents, perchance they may think and ponder |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And if We willed, We would have exalted him with them, but he inclined towards the earth, and followed his own desires. And his parable is like the parable of a dog. If thou wilt attack it, it pants. Or if thou wilt leave it, it pants. That is the parable of the folk, those who denied Our signs. Then, relate these narratives so that perhaps they will reflect |
