Quran with British translation - Surah Al-hashr ayat 9 - الحَشر - Page - Juz 28
﴿وَٱلَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلۡإِيمَٰنَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ يُحِبُّونَ مَنۡ هَاجَرَ إِلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِي صُدُورِهِمۡ حَاجَةٗ مِّمَّآ أُوتُواْ وَيُؤۡثِرُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَلَوۡ كَانَ بِهِمۡ خَصَاصَةٞۚ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفۡسِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ﴾
[الحَشر: 9]
﴿والذين تبوءوا الدار والإيمان من قبلهم يحبون من هاجر إليهم ولا يجدون﴾ [الحَشر: 9]
| Mohammad Habib Shakir And those who made their abode in the city and in the faith before them love those who have fled to them, and do not find in their hearts a need of what they are given, and prefer (them) before themselves though poverty may afflict them, and whoever is preserved from the niggardliness of his soul, these it is that are the successful ones |
| Mohammad Shafi Those who were settled in the city [Madinah] and had become believers before them [the refugees], love those who took refuge with them, and harbour no desire in their minds for what has been given [to the refugees]. They give them preference over themselves, even when they are themselves poor. And one who is protected against stinginess of one's own self — such are the ones truly successful |
| Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall Those who entered the city and the faith before them love those who flee unto them for refuge, and find in their breasts no need for that which hath been given them, but prefer (the fugitives) above themselves though poverty become their lot. And whoso is saved from his own avarice - such are they who are successful |
| Mufti Taqi Usmani And (fai’ is also) for those who established themselves in the homeland (of Madīnah) and in faith before the former ones (arrived in Madīnah), who have love for those who emigrated to them, and do not feel in their hearts any ambition for what is given to the former ones (from fai’), and give preference (to them) over themselves, even though they are in poverty. -And those who are saved from the greed of their hearts are the successful |
| Muhammad Asad And [it shall be offered, too, unto the poor from among] those who, before them, had their abode in this realm and in faith - [those] who love all that come to them in search of refuge, and who harbour in their hearts no grudge for whatever the others may have been given, but rather give them preference over themselves, even though poverty be their own lot: for, such as from their own covetousness are saved - it is they, they that shall attain to a happy state |
| Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali And (the ones) who took their location in the Residence Al-Madinah) and in belief before them, love whomever has migrated to them, (i.e., to the Ansar, the Muslims of Al-Madinah) and do not find in their breasts any need for what has been brought them, (The Muhajirun, those who emigrated from Makkah) and prefer (the Muhajir?n) above themselves, even though penury be (their portion). And whoever is protected from the avarice of his self, then those are they who are the prosperers |
| Muhammad Sarwar Those who established a community center and embraced the faith before the arrival of the immigrants love those who have come to their town. They are not jealous of what is given to the immigrants. They give preference to them over themselves - even concerning the things that they themselves urgently need. Whoever controls his greed will have everlasting happiness |
| Muhammad Taqi Usmani And (fai‘ is also) for those who established themselves in the homeland (of Madinah) and in faith before the former ones (arrived in Madinah), who have love for those who emigrated to them, and do not feel in their hearts any ambition for what is given to the former ones (from fai‘), and give preference (to them) over themselves, even though they are in poverty. __And those who are saved from the greed of their hearts are the successful |
| Mustafa Khattab Allah Edition As for those who had settled in the city and ˹embraced˺ the faith before ˹the arrival of˺ the emigrants, they love whoever immigrates to them, never having a desire in their hearts for whatever ˹of the gains˺ is given to the emigrants. They give ˹the emigrants˺ preference over themselves even though they may be in need. And whoever is saved from the selfishness of their own souls, it is they who are ˹truly˺ successful |

| N J Dawood Those who stayed in their own city² and embraced the Faith before them, love those who have sought refuge with them; they do not covet what they are given, but rather prize them above themselves, though they are in want. Those that preserve themselves from their own greed shall surely prosper |
| Safi Kaskas And (also for] those who before them, were already established in their homes [in Medina], and have accepted faith. They love those who migrated to them, and find no hesitation in their hearts in helping them. They give them preference over themselves, even if they themselves are needy. Whoever is spared from his own soul's greed is truly successful |
