And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah

﴿وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٖ مُّقِيمٍ ﴾

And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now)
