﴿وَإِنۡ أَرَدتُّمُ ٱسۡتِبۡدَالَ زَوۡجٖ مَّكَانَ زَوۡجٖ وَءَاتَيۡتُمۡ إِحۡدَىٰهُنَّ قِنطَارٗا فَلَا تَأۡخُذُواْ مِنۡهُ شَيۡـًٔاۚ أَتَأۡخُذُونَهُۥ بُهۡتَٰنٗا وَإِثۡمٗا مُّبِينٗا ﴾
[النِّسَاء: 20]
﴿وإن أردتم استبدال زوج مكان زوج وآتيتم إحداهن قنطارا فلا تأخذوا منه﴾ [النِّسَاء: 20]
Abdel Haleem If you wish to replace one wife with another, do not take any of her bride-gift back, even if you have given her a great amount of gold |
Abdul Hye But if you intend to replace your wife by another and you have given one of them a heap of gold (as dowry), don’t take away anything from her. Would you take it by slander and with clear sin (accuse her unjustly) |
Abdullah Yusuf Ali But if ye decide to take one wife in place of another, even if ye had given the latter a whole treasure for dower, Take not the least bit of it back: Would ye take it by slander and manifest wrong |
Abdul Majid Daryabadi And if ye intend to replace a wife by anot her, and ye have given the one of them a talent, take not back aught therefrom. Would ye take it back by slander and manifest sin |
