﴿هُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُسَيِّرُكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا كُنتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَجَرَيۡنَ بِهِم بِرِيحٖ طَيِّبَةٖ وَفَرِحُواْ بِهَا جَآءَتۡهَا رِيحٌ عَاصِفٞ وَجَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡجُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٖ وَظَنُّوٓاْ أَنَّهُمۡ أُحِيطَ بِهِمۡ دَعَوُاْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ لَئِنۡ أَنجَيۡتَنَا مِنۡ هَٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ ﴾
[يُونس: 22]
﴿هو الذي يسيركم في البر والبحر حتى إذا كنتم في الفلك وجرين﴾ [يُونس: 22]
| Dr Kamal Omar He it is Who enables you to travel through the land and the sea, till when you are in the ships and (the vessels) started sailing with these (passengers) with a favourable wind and (riders) became very happy with this (vessel), (there) came to this (vessel) a wind, very stormy and came to them the waves from all positions and they became sure that it (the vessel) is overwhelmed and encircled along with them, they invoked Allah, keeping pure for Him the Religion: “Surely if you rescued us from this, truly, we become out of those who are grateful |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar He it is Who sets you in motion through dry land and the sea until when you had been in boats and they ran them with the good wind and they were glad in it. A tempest wind drew near them. Waves drew near from every place, and they thought that they were enclosed by it. They called to God, ones who are sincere and devoted in their way of life to Him saying: If Thou wert to rescue us from this, we will, certainly, be of the ones who are thankful |

As they sail by ship well pleased by the favorable winds, suddenly the weather turns nasty and the waves come slapping about from all directions. They feel overwhelmed. At such a time they abandon all others and call Allah exclusively. Pleading solely to Him, they say, "If only You rescue us now, we would stay grateful forever |
| Edward Henry Palmer He it is who makes you travel in the land and sea, until when ye are in the ships - and these carry them afloat with a favouring wind, and they rejoice therein, there comes to them a violent wind, and there comes to them the wave from every place, and they think that they are encompassed about; then they call on God, sincere in religion towards Him, 'If thou dost save from this we will surely be of those who thank |
| Farook Malik He is the One Who enables you to travel through the land and by the sea; until when you are on board a ship, as the ship sails with a favorable wind and they feel happy about it; but when there comes a stormy wind and the waves reach them from all sides and they think they are being overwhelmed: then they pray to Allah with their sincere devotion, saying, "If You deliver us from this, we shall become your true thankful devotees |
| George Sale It is He who hath given you conveniencies for travelling by land and by sea; so that ye be in ships, which sail with them, with a favourable wind, and they rejoice therein. And when a tempestuous wind overtaketh them, and waves come upon them from every side, and they think themselves to be encompassed with inevitable dangers; they call upon God, exhibiting the pure religion unto Him, and saying, verily if Thou deliver us from this peril, we will be of those who give thanks |
| Maududi He it is Who enables you to journey through the land and the sea. And so it happens that when you have boarded the ships and they set sail with a favourable wind, and the passengers rejoice at the pleasant voyage, then suddenly a fierce gale appears, and wave upon wave surges upon them from every side, and people believe that they are surrounded from all directions, and all of them cry out to Allah in full sincerity of faith: `If You deliver us from this we shall surely be thankful |
