Quran with Tafsir_English translation - Surah Ar-Ra‘d ayat 31 - الرَّعد - Page - Juz 13
Dr Kamal Omar And if (it is) that there is a Quran, mountains have been moved thereby (e.g., the incidents described in Verse No:7/143), or the earth was cloven asunder thereby (e.g., the incidents discussed in Verses No: 2/60 7/160), or the dead one has been made to speak thereby [e.g., the incidents narrated in Verses No: 2/73,260 3/49 5/110- (it is none but this very Quran!)] Nay! The command to all extent is with Allah (Alone). Have they who have Believed not realised that if Allah thinks proper He would have surely guided the entire mankind? And those who have disbelieved shall not stop (it). Qariah (disaster) shall reach them because of what they have forged or it will befall close to their home until the Promise of Allah comes (into action). Certainly, Allah does not defy the promised one |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar If there were a Recitation that would have set mountains in motion with it, or the earth would be cut off with it or the dead would be spoken to with it, nay! The command is altogether with God. Do those who believed not have knowledge that if God wills He would have guided humanity altogether. Will cease not to light on those who were ungrateful disaster because of what they crafted? Or will it alight close to their abode until the promise of God approaches? Truly, God breaks not His solemn declaration |
Dr Munir Munshey What if the mountains move about, the earth rips open and the dead begin talking? What if the Quran were to cause all that? (They would still not believe). Indeed, the power and prerogative of all sorts belong to Allah! Do the believers not feel reassured by the fact that Allah, if He had wanted, could bestow guidance upon all people. As a consequence of their lies, calamity would continue to hit them in their homes, or strike nearby, till the day of His promise. Surely, Allah does not renege on His promise |
Edward Henry Palmer And though it were a Qur'an by which the mountains were moved, or by which the earth were cut up, or the dead made to speak - nay, God's is the command altogether! Did not those who believed know that if God had pleased He would have guided men altogether? And a striking calamity shall not cease to overtake those who misbelieve for what they have wrought, or to alight close by their dwellings; until God's promise comes - verily, God fails not in His promise |
Farook Malik Even if there were a Qur’an that could move mountains, cleft the earth asunder or make the dead speak (do you think the result would have been different?) Surely all things are subject to Allah’s command. Have not yet the believers been satisfied that if Allah wanted, He would have certainly guided the whole of mankind? As for the unbelievers, the disaster will not cease to afflict them every now and then or to crouch at their very doorsteps because of their misdeeds, until the promise of Allah is fulfilled; surely Allah will not fail His promise |
George Sale Though a Koran were revealed by which mountains should be removed, or the earth cleaved in sunder, or the dead be caused to speak, it would be in vain. But the matter belongeth wholly unto God. Do not therefore the believers know, that if God pleased, He would certainly direct all men? Adversity shall not cease to afflict the unbelievers for that which they have committed, or to sit down near their habitations, until God's promise come: For God is not contrary to the promise |
Maududi And what would have happened were a Qur´an to be revealed wherewith mountains could be set in motion, or the earth cleft, or the dead made to speak? (To show such signs is not at all difficult for) everything rests entirely with Allah. So, do not the people of faith (still look forward to such a sign in response to the demand of the unbelievers and) despair as a result of knowing that had Allah so willed, He could have guided all to the Truth. Misfortune continues to afflict the unbelievers on account of their misdeeds, or to befall on locations close to their habitation. This will continue until Allah´s promise (of chastisement) is fulfilled. Indeed Allah does not go back upon His promise |
