They call upon you O Muhammad for information relative to what has been rendered lawful. Say to them: Allah has rendered lawful what is worthy, good and wholesome, and the prey of the trained beasts of chase - animal or bird- trained to go in chase of the game you hunt as hounds are trained in the manner Allah has taught you; you may eat the flesh of the game they catch but under the invocation of Allah’s Name over it when you release the hound and entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah; Allah is swift indeed in executing the law

Dr Kamal Omar
They would ask you what is that which has been made lawful for them (as food). Say: “At-Tayyibat are made lawful to you; as well as which you taught Al-Jawareh; (acting as)Mokallebin. You teach them (i.e., to your Al-Jawareh, including dogs and hounds as well as the birds of prey called falcons) out of what Allah has made known to you (that the hunting animal should only seize the prey, shall not eat or consume it and shall not harbour the desire to devour it directly). So eat out of what they have seized and brought for you, and do pronounce the name of Allah over it (while you give a cut at the carotid arteries of the neck to provide an easy exit to the free blood available in the body of the prey); and pay obedience to Allah. Verily, Allah is swift in accountability
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar
They ask thee what was permitted to them. Say: That which is good was permitted to you and what you taught of hunting creatures, as one who teaches hunting dogs of what God taught you. So eat of what they seized for you and remember the Name of God over it and be Godfearing of God. Truly, God is Swift in reckoning
Dr Munir Munshey
They seek to know what is made lawful for them. Say, "Lawful for you (to eat) are (all) the wholesome (and pure) things. (Also lawful is) the game caught by the birds or beasts of prey trained by you according to what Allah has taught you. (You may) eat what they fetch for you, and mention the name of Allah over it. Be afraid of (violating the laws of) Allah. Indeed, Allah is very swift in calling to account
Edward Henry Palmer
They will ask thee what is lawful for them? say, 'Lawful for you are good things and what ye have taught beasts of prey (to catch), training them like dogs; - ye teach them as God taught you; - so eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of God over it, and fear God, for verily, God is swift in reckoning up
Farook Malik
They ask you what food is lawful for them, say: All good clean things are lawful for you, as well as what you have taught your hunting birds and beasts to catch, trained by you with the knowledge given to you by Allah. Eat what they catch and hold for you, however, pronounce the name of Allah over it. Have fear of Allah. Allah is swift in settling the accounts
George Sale
They will ask thee what is allowed them as lawful to eat? Answer, such things as are good are allowed you; and what ye shall teach animals of prey to catch, training them up for hunting after the manner of dogs, and teaching them according to the skill which God hath taught you. Eat therefore of that which they shall catch for you; and commemorate the name of God thereon; and fear God, for God is swift in taking an account
Maududi
They ask you what has been made lawful to them. Say: ´All clean things have been made lawful to you, and such hunting animals as you teach, training them to hunt, teaching them the knowledge Allah has given you - you may eat what they catch for you - but invoke the name of Allah on it. Have fear of Allah (in violating His Law). Allah is swift in His reckoning.´
