Dr Kamal Omar Verily, We took a covenant from Bani Israiel, and sent towards them Messengers. Whenever (there) came to them a Messenger with what theirselves desired not — a group of them they called liars and another group (among these Messengers) they assassinate |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Certainly, We took a solemn promise from the Children of Israel and We sent Messengers to them. Whenever a Messenger drew near them with what they themselves yearn not for, a group of people denied them and a group of people kill them |
Dr Munir Munshey We certainly took a solemn pledge from the children of Israel, and sent messengers towards them. But they disbelieved (and disobeyed) whenever the messengers brought them a command that was against their wishes and desires. Some of the messengers they rejected and belied, others they (rebelled against and) killed |
Edward Henry Palmer We took a compact of the children of Israel, and we sent to them apostles; every time there came to them an apostle with what their souls loved not, a part of them they did call liars and a part of them they slew |
Farook Malik Certainly We took a covenant from the Children of Israel and sent them Messengers. Whenever there came to them a Messenger with a message that did not suit their fancies, either they called him an impostor or they put him to death |
George Sale We formerly accepted the covenant of the children of Israel, and sent apostles unto them. So often as an apostle came unto them with that which their souls desired not, they accused some of them of imposture, and some of them they killed |
Maududi And We took a covenant from the Children of Israel and sent to them many Messengers. But whenever any Messenger brought to them something that did not suit their desires, they gave the lie to some of them and killed the others |
