﴿أُحِلَّ لَكُمۡ صَيۡدُ ٱلۡبَحۡرِ وَطَعَامُهُۥ مَتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِلسَّيَّارَةِۖ وَحُرِّمَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ صَيۡدُ ٱلۡبَرِّ مَا دُمۡتُمۡ حُرُمٗاۗ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ﴾
[المَائدة: 96]
﴿أحل لكم صيد البحر وطعامه متاعا لكم وللسيارة وحرم عليكم صيد البر﴾ [المَائدة: 96]
| Dr Kamal Omar Made lawful to you (is the pursuit of) water-game and its consumption as food — for the benefit of yourselves and one who is a traveller; and is made forbidden to you (the pursuit of) land-game as long as you happened to be those under prohibition (i.e., you are putting on Ehram or you are within the limits of Harem). And pay obedience to Allah, The Being — towards Him you shall be gathered back |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar The game of the sea was permitted to you and the food of it as sustenance for you and for a company of travelers, but the game of dry land was forbidden to you as long as you continued in pilgrim sanctity. And be Godfearing of God to Whom you will be assembled |

| Maududi The game of the water and eating thereof are permitted to you as a provision for you (who are settled) and for those on a journey; but to hunt on land while you are in the state of Pilgrim sanctity is forbidden for you. Beware, then, of disobeying Allah to Whom you shall all be mustered |
