﴿۞ وَإِن تَعۡجَبۡ فَعَجَبٞ قَوۡلُهُمۡ أَءِذَا كُنَّا تُرَٰبًا أَءِنَّا لَفِي خَلۡقٖ جَدِيدٍۗ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِرَبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡأَغۡلَٰلُ فِيٓ أَعۡنَاقِهِمۡۖ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ ﴾
[الرَّعد: 5]
﴿وإن تعجب فعجب قولهم أئذا كنا ترابا أئنا لفي خلق جديد أولئك﴾ [الرَّعد: 5]
| Dr Kamal Omar And if you wonder, then wondrous is their statement: “What! When we have become dust, shall we surely be indeed in a new creation?” These (had been) those who have disbelieved in their Nourisher-Sustainer and these (are the ones who shall have) shackles round their necks, and they (shall be) inmates of the Fire. They shall be dwellers therein |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And if thou hast marveled, then, wonder at their saying: When we had been earth dust, will we, truly, be in a new creation? And those are those who were ungrateful to their Lord. Those will have yokes around their necks. And those will be the Companions of the Fire. They, ones who will dwell in it forever |
| Dr Munir Munshey Be amazed if you must, at their question, "After we have become dust, would we be created anew?" They are the ones who have rejected their Lord! They have shackles round their necks and they are the inmates of (hell) fire! They shall live in it for ever |
| Edward Henry Palmer And if thou shouldst wonder, wondrous is their speech: 'What! when we have become dust, shall we really then be created anew?' These are they who disbelieve in their Lord, and these are they with fetters round their necks, and these are the fellows of the Fire; they shall dwell therein for aye |
| Farook Malik Now, if there is anything that seems strange, then strange is their saying: "What! When we will become dust, could we then be raised to a new life again?" They are the people who have denied their Lord, they are the ones who will have yokes around their necks and they are the ones who will be the inmates of Hellfire to live therein forever |
| George Sale If thou dost wonder at the infidels denying the resurrection, surely wonderful is their saying, after We shall have been reduced to dust, shall We be restored in a new creature? These are they who believe not in their Lord; these shall have collars on their necks, and these shall be the inhabitants of hell fire: Therein shall they abide for ever |
| Maududi And were you to wonder, then wondrous indeed is the saying of those who say: "What! After we have been reduced to dust, shall we be created afresh?" They are the ones who disbelieved in their Lord; they are the ones who shall have shackles around their necks. They shall be the inmates of the Fire, wherein they will abide for ever |
