﴿مَثَلُ مَا يُنفِقُونَ فِي هَٰذِهِ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا كَمَثَلِ رِيحٖ فِيهَا صِرٌّ أَصَابَتۡ حَرۡثَ قَوۡمٖ ظَلَمُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فَأَهۡلَكَتۡهُۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَٰكِنۡ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ ﴾
[آل عِمران: 117]
﴿مثل ما ينفقون في هذه الحياة الدنيا كمثل ريح فيها صر أصابت﴾ [آل عِمران: 117]
| Dr Kamal Omar The example of that which they spend in this immediate life is the example of a wind — in it is icy cold (effect): it struck the harvest of the nation who wronged their selves, so it destroyed it. And Allah did not deal unjustly with them; rather, they deal unjustly with their ownselves |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar The parable of what they spend in this present life is like the parable of a freezing wind in it that lit on the cultivation of the folk who did wrong themselves and caused it to perish. And God did not wrong them, but they do wrong themselves |
| Dr Munir Munshey What they spend during the life of this world may be likened to the frosty frigid wind, that blows across and ravages the (ripe) harvest of the people who have sinned against themselves. Allah is not unjust to them, but in fact, they are cruel to their own souls |

| Maududi The example of what they spend in the life of this world is like that of a wind accompanied with frost which smites the harvest of a people who wronged themselves, and lays it to waste. It is not Allah who wronged them; rather it is they who wrong themselves |
