﴿يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَّخِذُواْ بِطَانَةٗ مِّن دُونِكُمۡ لَا يَأۡلُونَكُمۡ خَبَالٗا وَدُّواْ مَا عَنِتُّمۡ قَدۡ بَدَتِ ٱلۡبَغۡضَآءُ مِنۡ أَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ وَمَا تُخۡفِي صُدُورُهُمۡ أَكۡبَرُۚ قَدۡ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ﴾
[آل عِمران: 118]
﴿ياأيها الذين آمنوا لا تتخذوا بطانة من دونكم لا يألونكم خبالا ودوا﴾ [آل عِمران: 118]
| Dr Kamal Omar O you people who have Believed (in Al-Kitab)! Take not as Bitanah (confidant) from outside your own. They shall not fail in injecting corruption and vulgarity in you. They desired that which pained you. Their hatred (against Islam) has become evident from their facies. And whatever their chests conceal is more serious and dangerous. Certainly, We have made evident to you the signs (to understand the enemy) if you were using (your) intellect |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar O those who believed! Take not to yourselves as close friends other than yourselves. They stop at nothing to ruin you. They wished that misfortune would fall on you. Surely, their hatred showed itself from their mouths and what their breasts conceal is greater. Surely, We made manifest to you the signs if you had been reasonable |
| Dr Munir Munshey Oh you who believe! Do not take as your intimate friends, anyone other than your own _ (the believers). The others _ (the unbelievers) _ spare no effort to corrupt you. They love to see you in trouble. (Malice and) hatred has already burst forth from their lips, but what their hearts hold back is far worse. We have explained the verses to you. | Maududi Believers! Do not take for intimate friends those who are not of your kind. They spare no effort to injure you. Indeed they love all that distresses you. Their hatred is clearly manifest in what they say, and what their breasts conceal is even greater. Now We have made Our messages clear to you, if only you can understand (the danger of their intimacy) |
