Quran with Tafsir_English translation - Surah al-‘Imran ayat 75 - آل عِمران - Page - Juz 3
Dr Kamal Omar And out of the people of Al-Kitab (is that) who if you entrust him with a huge sum he will return it; and out of them (is that) who if you entrust him with one Dinar, he will not return it to you except (under the pressure of that) which you continued on him standing (before him repeatedly). This is because, without doubt, they said: “(There is) no blame on us about (doing dishonesty with) the Ummiyyun and (thus) they utter against Allah a falsehood although they know |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And among the People of the Book is he who, if thou hast entrusted him with a hundredweight, he would give it back to thee. And among them is he who, if thou hast entrusted him with a dinar, he would not give it back to thee unless thou hadst continued as one who stands over him. That is because they said: There is no way of moral duty on us as to the unlettered. And they are lying against God while they, they know |
Dr Munir Munshey Among the people of the scriptures are some who would readily return (your trust) to you, even if you entrust them with a lot of money. Among them are also those who would not pay you back, even if you entrusted him with a single ´dinar´, unless you stand over them (and demand it) constantly. This is so, because they say, "There is no liability upon us about matters concerning the illiterate _ (the non-jews)." They deliberately utter lies about Allah |
Edward Henry Palmer And of the people of the Book, there are some of them who, if thou entrust them with a talent give it back to you; and some of them, if thou entrust them with a dinar, he will not give it back to thee except so long as thou dost stand over him. That is because they say, We owe no duty to the Gentiles;' but they tell a lie against God, the while they know |
Farook Malik Among the People of the Book there are some who, if you trust them with a heap of gold, will readily return it back; and there are others who, if you trust them with a single dinar (silver coin) will not return it back unless you constantly keep on demanding; because they say, "We are not going to be called to account for our behavior with the illiterates (non Jews or Christians)." Thus they deliberately ascribe a lie to Allah -knowing well that He never permitted such wrongdoing |
George Sale There is of those who have received the scriptures, unto whom if thou trust a talent, he will restore it unto thee; and there is also of them, unto whom is thou trust a dinar, he will not restore it unto thee, unless thou stand over him continually with great urgency. This they do because they say, we are not obliged to observe justice with the heathen: But they utter a lie against God, knowingly |
Maududi And among the People of the Book there are some who would restore you even if you were to entrust a treasure of gold, and of them there are some whom were you to entrust with one gold piece, will not restore it unless you stand over them. That is because they say: ´We will not be taken to task for whatever we may do to non-Jews (ummls). Thus they falsely fix a lie upon Allah, and do so wittingly |
