Quran with Tafsir_English translation - Surah Luqman ayat 12 - لُقمَان - Page - Juz 21

We imparted to Loqman* wisdom and the capacity of judging rightly in matters relating to life and conduct and to the soundness of judgement in the choice of means and ends. And We exhorted him to impel himself to the feeling of gratitude and gratefulness, for he whose bosom surge forth and answers thanks, serves his own soul. He who denies Allah's favours must realize that Allah is Ghaniyun (Absolute and Independent) and Hamidun (worthy of all praise)

Dr Kamal Omar
And certainly, definitely We gave Luqman wisdom; that, adopt practical thankfulness for Allah, and whosoever would pay thanks, so surely what (is a fact is that) he pays thanks for his own self; and whosoever disobeyed — then undoubtedly Allah is Self-Independent, Immensely Praised
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar
And, certainly, We gave Luqman wisdom that: Give thanks to God. And whoever gives thanks, gives thanks only for himself. And whoever was ungrateful— then, truly, God is Sufficient, Worthy of Praise
Dr Munir Munshey
He had certainly granted ´Luqman´ the wisdom. (He said), "Be thankful to Allah!". Indeed, the gratitude of the one who offers thanks is for his own good!" And if anyone is not grateful, (let him remember that) Allah is Free of all wants and Worthy of all praise
Edward Henry Palmer
We did give unto Loqman wisdom, saying, 'Thank God; for he who thanks God is only thankful for his own soul; and he who is ungrateful - verily, God is independent, worthy of praise
Farook Malik
We gave wisdom to Luqman so that he may be grateful to Allah. The one who pays thanks, does so for his own good; and the one who denies His favors, should know that Allah is certainly free of all wants, worthy of all praise
George Sale
We heretofore bestowed wisdom on Lokman, and commanded him, saying, be thou thankful unto God: For whoever is thankful, shall be thankful to the advantage of his own soul; and if any shall be unthankful, verily God is self-sufficient, and worthy to be praised
Maududi
We bestowed wisdom upon Luqman, (enjoining): "Give thanks to Allah." Whoso gives thanks to Allah, does so to his own good. And whoso disbelieves (let him know that) Allah is All-Sufficient, Immensely Praiseworthy
