﴿وَلَقَدۡ مَكَّنَّٰهُمۡ فِيمَآ إِن مَّكَّنَّٰكُمۡ فِيهِ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَهُمۡ سَمۡعٗا وَأَبۡصَٰرٗا وَأَفۡـِٔدَةٗ فَمَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ سَمۡعُهُمۡ وَلَآ أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ وَلَآ أَفۡـِٔدَتُهُم مِّن شَيۡءٍ إِذۡ كَانُواْ يَجۡحَدُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ﴾
[الأحقَاف: 26]
﴿ولقد مكناهم فيما إن مكناكم فيه وجعلنا لهم سمعا وأبصارا وأفئدة فما﴾ [الأحقَاف: 26]
| Dr Kamal Omar And surely, indeed We established them so firmly wherewith We have not established you. And We have bestowed them (the faculties of) hearing, and eye-sights and hearts; but benifitted them not their hearing, and nor their eye-sights and nor their hearts — anything when they used to oppose Ayaatillah, and got encircled around them that whereat they used to mock and ridicule |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And, certainly, We established them firmly in what We established you firmly not and We made for them the ability to hear and sight and minds. Yet having the ability to hear availed them not, nor their sight, nor their minds at all since they had been negating the signs of God. And surrounded were they by what they had been ridiculing |
| Dr Munir Munshey We had certainly consolidated them; We had strengthened (and established) them much more than We have strengthened you. We granted them the faculties of hearing, sight and intellect. But since they used to dispute and deny the revelations of Allah, their hearing, sight and intellect did not benefit them a bit. What they used to mock (and deride), surrounded and overwhelmed them |
| Edward Henry Palmer We had established them in what we have established you, and we made for them hearing and eyesight and hearts; but neither their hearing nor their eyesight nor their hearts availed them aught, since they did gainsay the signs of God, and that encompassed them whereat they had mocked |
| Farook Malik We had established them much better than We have established you, O Qureysh of Mecca, and endowed them with the faculties of hearing, seeing, and intellect. Yet their faculties of hearing, sight and intellect availed them nothing since they denied the revelations of Allah; and they were completely hemmed in by the same thing that they used to mock at |
| George Sale We had established them in the like flourishing condition wherein We have established you, O men of Mecca; and We had given them ears, and eyes, and hearts: Yet neither their ears, nor their eyes, nor their hearts profited them at all, when they rejected the signs of God; but the vengeance which they mocked at, fell upon them |
| Maududi We had established them firmly in a manner We have not established you. We had given them ears and eyes and hearts. But nothing availed them ? neither their ears, nor their eyes, nor their hearts, for they denied the Signs of Allah. Then what they had mocked at encompassed them |
