O you whose hearts have been impressed with the image of religious and spiritual virtues: Do not desecrate Allah’s religious rites* nor violate the Sacred Month** (unless attacked) or interfere with the offerings, nor disturb the garlands mantling them identifying the sacrifice nor obstruct the way against those seeking grace, being bound for the Sacrosanct House betaking themselves to Providence for His bounty. And when you have concluded the proceedings of Allah’s religious rites and divested yourselves of the pilgrim's garb and moved away from the environs of the Sacrosanct House, you may engage in the chase if you like. And let not your hatred of a people, once your enemies who malevolently obstructed your way to the Sacrosanct House, stir your emotions to retaliate. And unite in good will to effectuate moral virtue and piety and not in sin, transgression and impiety, and entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah; Who punishes severely

Dr Kamal Omar
O you people who have Believed! Violate not the sanctity of Sha’irullah [Signs and symbols (of obedience to) Allah] that is, neither of the Protected Month, and nor of Al-Hadiya (Animal proceeding to the Kaba for sacrifice); and neither the necklaces or collars (that such animals are putting on), and nor of those who are proceeding to the Sacred, Protected and Prohibited House — they seek the Bounty proceeding from their Nourisher-Sustainer and (His) agreement and pleasure. And when you have become free of prohibitions (i.e., you put off Ehram and you are outside the limits of Harem-area, only) then you indulge in game of hunting. And shall not lead you the hatred (exhibited) by a nation that they obstructed you from reaching, The Sacred, Protected and Prohibited Mosque — that you indulge in hostility or transgression (on your part). Assist one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa, and do not help one another in sin and transgression. And pay obedience to Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in giving punishment
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar
O those who believed! Profane not the waymarks of God nor the Sacred Month nor the sacrificial gift nor the garlanded nor ones who are bound for the Sacred House looking for grace from their Lord and contentment. And when you left your pilgrim sanctity, then, hunt. And let not that you detest a folk who barred you from the Masjid al-Haram drive you into exceeding the limits.• And cooperate with one another in virtuous conduct and God-consciousness and cooperate not with one another in sin and deep seated dislike. And be Godfearing of God. Truly, God is Severe in repayment
Dr Munir Munshey
Oh you who believe! Do not violate the sacred rituals of Allah: the sacred (months of pilgrimage), the sacrificial animals, the garlanded animals pledged as offerings, and the people flocking the sacred house seeking the grace and approval of their Lord. You may hunt once you take off the ´ihram´ _ the ritual attire of pilgrimage. Do not let your hatred (and prejudice) against a nation _ a nation that once forbade you to enter the sacred mosque _ cause you to become unjust and commit excesses. Assist and support each other in matters of virtue and piety. Do not help each other in sin and transgression. Fear Allah! Allah is very severe in (inflicting) punishment
Edward Henry Palmer
O ye who believe! do not deem the monuments of God to be lawful, nor the sacred month, nor the offering, nor its neck garlands, nor those who sojourn at the sacred house, craving grace from their Lord and His pleasure. But when ye are in lawful state again, then chase; and let not ill-will against the people who turned you from the Sacred Mosque make you transgress; but help one another in righteousness and piety, and do not help one another to sin and enmity; but fear God, - verily, God is keen to punish
Farook Malik
O believers! Do not violate the sanctity of the Symbols of Allah: the Sacred Month , the animals brought for sacrifice, the garlands that mark such animals, and those people visiting the Sacred House (Ka'bah) to seek the grace and good pleasure of their Lord. When you put off your Ihram (pilgrimage is over) then you are allowed to hunt. Let not the hatred of some people - who once hindered you from the Sacred Mosque - incite you to commit transgression. Cooperate with one another in righteousness and piety, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression. Have fear of Allah. Allah is stern in punishment
George Sale
O true believers, violate not the holy rites of God, nor the sacred month, nor the offering, nor the ornaments hung thereon, nor those who are travelling to the holy house, seeking favour from their Lord, and to please Him. But when ye shall have finished your pilgrimage; then hunt. And let not the malice of some, in that they hindered you from entering the sacred temple, provoke you to transgress, by taking revenge on them in the sacred months. Assist one another according to justice and piety, but assist not one another in injustice and malice: Therefore fear God; for God is severe in punishing
Maududi
Believers! Neither desecrate the symbols of (devotion to) Allah, nor the holy month, nor the animals of offering, nor the animals wearing collars indicating they are for sacrifice, nor ill-treat those who have set out for the Holy House seeking from their Lord His bounty and good pleasure
