Is one whose evil deed is made appealing to him so he deems it good [like one who is rightly guided]? It is Allah who causes to stray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. So do not let yourself collapse in grief for them. Allah is All-Knowing of what they do

﴿أفمن زين له سوء عمله فرآه حسنا فإن الله يضل من يشاء﴾ [فَاطِر: 8]

Mohammad Habib Shakir
What! is he whose evil deed is made fairseeming to him so much so that he considers it good? Now surely Allah makes err whom He pleases and guides aright whom He pleases, so let not your soul waste away in grief for them; surely Allah is Cognizant of what they do
Mohammad Shafi
Does he, whose evil deed is made to look enticing to him, consider it good!? Now, indeed, Allah lets go astray whom He wills and guides to the Right Path whom He wills. So let not yourself (Prophet) get affected with anxiety for them. Allah does indeed know what they do
Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
Is he, the evil of whose deeds is made fairseeming unto him so that he deemeth it good, (other than Satan's dupe)? Allah verily sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth whom He will; so let not thy soul expire in sighings for them. Lo! Allah is Aware of what they do
Mufti Taqi Usmani
Then, can the one whose evil deed is so much adorned for him that he deems it really good (be equal to the one who differentiates between good and evil)? The fact, therefore, is that Allah lets go astray whomsoever He wills, and leads to the right path whomsoever He wills. So, (O Prophet,) let not your soul collapse in grief for them. Surely Allah knows well what they are doing
Muhammad Asad
Is, then, he to whom the evil of his own doings is [so] alluring that [in the end] he regards it as good [anything but a follower of Satan]? For, verily, God lets go astray him that wills [to go astray], just as He guides him that wills [to be guided]. Hence, [O believer,] do not waste thyself in sorrowing over them: verily, God has full knowledge of all that they do
Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali
So, is he (righteous), the odiousness of whose deed (s) had been adorned (i.e., made attractive) for him, so that he sees them as fair (deeds)? Then surely Allah leads into error whomever He decides, and guides whomever He decides; so do not let yourself go away in regrets for them. Surely Allah is Ever-Knowing of whatever they work out
Muhammad Sarwar
Can one whose evil deeds seem attractive and virtuous to him (be compared to a truly righteous person)? God guides or causes to go astray whomever He wants. (Muhammad), do not be grieved because of their disbelief. God knows well whatever they do
Muhammad Taqi Usmani
Then, can the one whose evil deed is so much adorned for him that he deems it really good (be equal to the one who differentiates between good and evil)? The fact, therefore, is that Allah lets go astray whomsoever He wills, and leads to the right path whomsoever He wills. So, (O Prophet,) let not your soul collapse in grief for them. Surely Allah knows well what they are doing
Mustafa Khattab Allah Edition
Are those whose evil-doing is made so appealing to them that they deem it good ˹like those who are rightly guided˺? ˹It is˺ certainly Allah ˹Who˺ leaves to stray whoever He wills, and guides whoever He wills. So do not grieve yourself to death over them ˹O Prophet˺. Surely Allah is All-Knowing of what they do
Mustafa Khattab God Edition
Are those whose evil-doing is made so appealing to them that they deem it good ˹like those who are rightly guided˺? ˹It is˺ certainly God ˹Who˺ leaves to stray whoever He wills, and guides whoever He wills. So do not grieve yourself to death over them ˹O Prophet˺. Surely God is All-Knowing of what they do
N J Dawood
And what of him whose foul deeds are made to seem fair to him? God leaves in error whom He will and guides whom He pleases. Do not destroy yourself¹ with sighs on their account: God has full knowledge of what they do
Safi Kaskas
What about the one whose evil deeds were made to look attractive to him so he regards them as good? God lets stray [those] who choose [to be misguided] and guides [those] who choose [guidance], so don't let your sorrow over them destroy you. God knows what they do
