Quran with English translation - Surah Fussilat ayat 17 - فُصِّلَت - Page - Juz 24
﴿وَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَهَدَيۡنَٰهُمۡ فَٱسۡتَحَبُّواْ ٱلۡعَمَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمۡ صَٰعِقَةُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡهُونِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ ﴾
[فُصِّلَت: 17]
﴿وأما ثمود فهديناهم فاستحبوا العمى على الهدى فأخذتهم صاعقة العذاب الهون بما﴾ [فُصِّلَت: 17]
Al Bilal Muhammad Et Al As for the Thamud, We gave them guidance, but they preferred blindness to guidance. So the stunning punishment of humiliation seized them because of what they earned |
Ali Bakhtiari Nejad And as for the Thamud, We guided them but they preferred the blindness over the guidance, so thunderbolt of the degrading punishment took them, for what they used to do |
Ali Quli Qarai As for [the people of] Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness to guidance. So the bolt of a humiliating punishment seized them because of what they used to earn |
Ali Unal As for the (tribe of) Thamud: We showed them (the straight path of) guidance but they preferred blindness over guidance. So then the lightning-like punishment of humiliation seized them because of what they had been earning for themselves |
Hamid S Aziz And as to Thamud, We showed them the right way, but they chose blindness (of heart) above guidance, so there overtook them the stunning (like a bolt of lightening) punishment of humiliation for what they earned |
John Medows Rodwell And as to Themoud, we had vouchsafed them guidance; but to guidance did they prefer blindness; wherefore the tempest of a shameful punishment overtook them for their doings |
Literal And but Thamud, so We guided them so they loved/liked the blindness/misguidance more, over the guidance, so the torture the humiliating/disgraceful cry of torture/destructive torture punished/took them because of what they were gaining/acquiring |
Mir Anees Original So as for Samood, We gave them guidance but they loved blindness compared to guidance, so the thunderbolt of humiliating punishment took hold of them because of that which they used to earn |
