﴿مَن كَفَرَ بِٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ إِيمَٰنِهِۦٓ إِلَّا مَنۡ أُكۡرِهَ وَقَلۡبُهُۥ مُطۡمَئِنُّۢ بِٱلۡإِيمَٰنِ وَلَٰكِن مَّن شَرَحَ بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ صَدۡرٗا فَعَلَيۡهِمۡ غَضَبٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٞ ﴾
[النَّحل: 106]
﴿من كفر بالله من بعد إيمانه إلا من أكره وقلبه مطمئن بالإيمان﴾ [النَّحل: 106]
| Dr Kamal Omar Whoever disbelieved in Allah after his Faith (was fully entrenched in Him), except who is compelled while his heart is at rest with Faith — but one who opened (his) breast to disbelief, then on them is wrath from Allah and for them is a great punishment |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Whoever disbelieved in God after his belief—other than whoever was compelled to do it against his will while his heart is one that is at peace in belief—but whoever’s breast is expanded to disbelief, on them is the anger of God and for them is a serious punishment |
| Dr Munir Munshey The one who denies after having first believed __ not the one who is coerced (into unbelief) while his heart is firm on belief, but rather the one who rejects with the full approval of his heart __ earns the wrath of Allah. For him, there is a tremendous punishment |

| George Sale Whoever denieth God, after he hath believed, except him who shall be compelled against his will, and whose heart continueth stedfast in the faith, shall be severely chastised: But whoever shall voluntarily profess infidelity, on those shall the indignation of God fall, and they shall suffer a grievous punishment |
| Maududi Except for those who were forced to engage in infidelity to Allah after believing the while their hearts remained firmly convinced of their belief, the ones whose hearts willingly embraced disbelief shall incur Allah´s wrath and a mighty chastisement lies in store for them |
