﴿يَٰزَكَرِيَّآ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ ٱسۡمُهُۥ يَحۡيَىٰ لَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُ سَمِيّٗا ﴾
[مَريَم: 7]
﴿يازكريا إنا نبشرك بغلام اسمه يحيى لم نجعل له من قبل سميا﴾ [مَريَم: 7]
| Dr Kamal Omar (And Lo! There came an immediate response): "O Zakariyya! Verily We, We give you the glad tidings of a son, his name (will be) Yahya (John). We have not made in his honour before (him, anyone) adopting (this) name |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar O Zechariah! Truly, We give thee the good tidings of a boy. His name will be Yahya and We assigned it not as a namesake for anyone before |
| Dr Munir Munshey Oh Zakaria, We give you the good news of a son. His name shall be Yahya! Never before have We created anyone with his kind of qualities |
| Edward Henry Palmer O Zachariah! verily, we, give thee glad tidings of a son, whose name shall be John. We never made a namesake of his before |
| Farook Malik We answered his prayer saying: "O Zakariya! Surely We give you the good news of a son, his name shall be John: a name that no one has had before him |
| George Sale And the angel answered him, O Zacharias, verily We bring thee tidings of a son, whose name shall be John; We have not caused any to bear the same name before him |
| Maududi (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before |
