﴿وَلَقَدۡ أَتَوۡاْ عَلَى ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ ٱلَّتِيٓ أُمۡطِرَتۡ مَطَرَ ٱلسَّوۡءِۚ أَفَلَمۡ يَكُونُواْ يَرَوۡنَهَاۚ بَلۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ نُشُورٗا ﴾
[الفُرقَان: 40]
﴿ولقد أتوا على القرية التي أمطرت مطر السوء أفلم يكونوا يرونها بل﴾ [الفُرقَان: 40]
Dr Kamal Omar And surely, indeed these have travelled through the town whereon was rained an evil rain. Have they not been that they may notice it? Nay! They had not been hoping for the resurrection (after death) |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And, certainly, they approached the town where the reprehensible rain was rained down on them. Is it that they see it not? Nay! They had been not hoping for any rising up |
Dr Munir Munshey They have surely passed by the town upon which was sent the most wretched rain. Did they not see it (coming)? But they did not expect the life after death |

Maududi Surely, these people have passed by that habitation on which was rained an evil rain: have they not seen its ruins? But they do not expect another life in the Hereafter |
