﴿أَوَلَمَّآ أَصَٰبَتۡكُم مُّصِيبَةٞ قَدۡ أَصَبۡتُم مِّثۡلَيۡهَا قُلۡتُمۡ أَنَّىٰ هَٰذَاۖ قُلۡ هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ أَنفُسِكُمۡۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ ﴾
[آل عِمران: 165]
﴿أو لما أصابتكم مصيبة قد أصبتم مثليها قلتم أنى هذا قل هو﴾ [آل عِمران: 165]
| Dr Kamal Omar What! And whenever a disaster smote you — indeed you smote (a disaster) double in comparison to it, (yet) you said: whence (is) this?” Tell (them): “It is from your (own) selves.” Surely, Allah is All-Capable over every thing |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And why, when an affliction lit on you, surely, you lit two times its like on them. Say: Where is this from? Say: It is from yourselves. Truly, God is Powerful over everything |
| Dr Munir Munshey Then, when a disaster struck _ though you had earlier inflicted (upon your enemies) a disaster of twice that magnitude _ you said, "Where is this from?" Say, "It came from yourself, because of your own (sins)." Allah has power over everything |

| George Sale After a misfortune hath befallen you at Ohod, -- ye had already obtained two equal advantages -- do ye say, whence cometh this? Answer, this is from yourselves: For God is almighty |
| Maududi And how come when a calamity befell you, you began to ask: ´How has this come about?´ even though the enemy has suffered at your hands (in the Battle of Badr) double what you have suffered! Say: This calamity has been brought about by yourselves. Surely Allah is Ail-Powerful |
