﴿وَإِذۡ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ لَمَآ ءَاتَيۡتُكُم مِّن كِتَٰبٖ وَحِكۡمَةٖ ثُمَّ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولٞ مُّصَدِّقٞ لِّمَا مَعَكُمۡ لَتُؤۡمِنُنَّ بِهِۦ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥۚ قَالَ ءَأَقۡرَرۡتُمۡ وَأَخَذۡتُمۡ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمۡ إِصۡرِيۖ قَالُوٓاْ أَقۡرَرۡنَاۚ قَالَ فَٱشۡهَدُواْ وَأَنَا۠ مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ ﴾
[آل عِمران: 81]
﴿وإذ أخذ الله ميثاق النبيين لما آتيتكم من كتاب وحكمة ثم جاءكم﴾ [آل عِمران: 81]
| Dr Kamal Omar And (bring to mind) when Allah took the covenant of the Prophets (saying): “Truly what I have given you as Kitab and Hikmah — afterwards came to you a Messenger as confirmer and rehearser for what is with you, (as a requirement) you must Believe in him and (as a necessity) you must assist him.” (Allah further) said: “Have you agreed and understood My Covenant regarding this (instruction) to you?” They said: “We have agreed.” He said: “Then bear witness and I am with you, among the witnesses.” |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And mention when God took a solemn promise from the Prophets: Whatever I gave you of the Book and wisdom, again, if a Messenger drew near you with that which establishes as true what is with you, you will believe in him and you will help him. He said: Are you in accord? And will you take on My severe test? They said: We are in accord. He said: Then, bear witness and I am with you among the ones who bear witness |
| Dr Munir Munshey When Allah made a covenant with the prophets, He said, "I have certainly given you the book and the wisdom. Later, a messenger will come to you confirming (the truth) that you already possess. You must believe him, and you must help him." (Allah) said (to the prophets, and their followers), "Do you agree (to do that), and will you accept (this condition of) My covenant?" They said, "We agree." (Allah) said, "Be witness (to that, and bear that in mind). I am (also there) with you as a witness |
| Edward Henry Palmer And when God took the compact from the prophets '(this is) surely what we have given you of the Book and wisdom. Then shall come to you the Apostle confirming what is with you. Ye must believe in him and help him.' He said, moreover, 'Are ye resolved and have ye taken my compact on that (condition).' They say, 'We are resolved.' He said, 'Then bear witness, for I am witness with you |
| Farook Malik Allah took a covenant with the Prophets, saying: "Now that you have been given the Book and Wisdom; there will come to you a Messenger who will confirm that which is with you, you will have to believe in him and help him in his mission." Then He said "Do you affirm this covenant and agree to take this heavy responsibility?" The Prophets replied, "Yes, we do affirm." Allah said, "Very well, bear witness to this and I too bear witness with you |
| George Sale And remember when God accepted the covenant of the prophets, saying, this verily is the scripture and the wisdom which I have given you: Hereafter shall an apostle come unto you, conforming the truth of that scripture which is with you; ye shall surely believe on Him, and ye shall assist Him. God said, are ye firmly resolved, and do ye accept my covenant on this condition? They answered, we are firmly resolved: God said, be ye therefore witnesses; and I also bear witness with you |
| Maududi And recall when Allah took a covenant from the Prophets: ´This is the Book and the Wisdom which I have given you. But should a Prophet come to you confirming that which is already with you, you shall believe in him and shall help him. So saying, Allah asked: ´Do you agree and accept to take up the burden of the covenant?´ They answered: ´We agree,´ He said: ´Then bear wirness; and I will be with you among the witness |
