﴿ظَهَرَ ٱلۡفَسَادُ فِي ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَيۡدِي ٱلنَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِي عَمِلُواْ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ ﴾
[الرُّوم: 41]
﴿ظهر الفساد في البر والبحر بما كسبت أيدي الناس ليذيقهم بعض الذي﴾ [الرُّوم: 41]
Dr Kamal Omar Evil has set in on the land and the sea because of what the hands of human-beings have earned (through their beliefs and actions) — so that He makes them taste some of that which they did in order that they may return (to the Book of Allah) |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Corruption was manifested on the dry land and the sea because of what the hands of humanity earned. He causes them to experience some of what they did, so that perhaps they will return repentant |
Dr Munir Munshey Corruption has appeared in the land and in sea because of what people have done to themselves. Now, He will make them taste the result of some of their deeds. Perhaps they might turn back |
Edward Henry Palmer Trouble hath appeared in the land and the sea, for what men's hands have gained! to make them taste a part of that which they have done,- haply they may return |
Farook Malik Mischief (war between Roman and Persian empires) has appeared in the land and the sea in consequence of man’s own misdeeds. Through such wars Allah let people taste the fruit of their deeds, so that they may turn back from evil |

Maududi Evil has become rife on the land and at sea because of men´s deeds; this in order that He may cause them to have a taste of some of their deeds; perhaps they will turn back (from evil) |
