Dr Kamal Omar So you people are indeed those individuals: you are called upon that you may spend in the Cause of Allah. So amongst you is that who behaves as a niggardly person. And whosoever behaves as niggardly, so surely what (is a fact is that) he becomes niggardly against his own Nafs. And Allah is the Self-Sufficient while you are the needy. And if you will turn back He will bring in place a nation other than you, then they will not be your likes |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Lo and behold! These are being called to spend in the way of God, yet among you are some who are misers. And whoever is a miser, then, he is a miser only to himself. God is Sufficient and you are poor. And if you turn away, He will have a folk other than you in exchange. Again, they will not be the like of you |
Dr Munir Munshey Here you are, now. You are being invited to spend in the path of Allah. Among you are those who are stingy; he who acts stingily does so for his own self! Allah is over and above all needs. You are the paupers! If you turn away, Allah will bring in your place others, who would not be like you |
Edward Henry Palmer Here are ye called upon to expend in God's cause, and among you are some who are niggardly; and he who is niggardly is but niggardly against his own soul: but God is rich and ye are poor, and if ye turn your backs He will substitute another people in your stead, then they will not be like you |
Farook Malik Behold, you are those who are being asked to give in the cause of Allah. Yet some of you are stingy, whereas whoever is stingy to His cause, is in fact stingy to himself. Allah is self sufficient, it is you who are needy. If you turn away He will replace you by some other folk; who will not be like you |
George Sale Behold, ye are those who are invited to expend part of your substance for the support of God's true religion; and there are some of you who are niggardly. But whoever shall be niggardly, shall be niggardly towards his own soul: For God wanteth nothing, but ye are needy: And if ye turn back, He will substitute another people in your stead, who shall not be like unto you |
Maududi Behold, you are those who are called upon to spend in Allah´s Way, but some of you are niggardly. Whoever is niggardly is in fact niggardly to himself. For Allah is All-Sufficient, whereas it is you who are in need of Him. If you turn away, He will replace you by a people other than you, and they will not be like you |
