﴿وَمَا لَكُمۡ أَلَّا تُنفِقُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِلَّهِ مِيرَٰثُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ لَا يَسۡتَوِي مِنكُم مَّنۡ أَنفَقَ مِن قَبۡلِ ٱلۡفَتۡحِ وَقَٰتَلَۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَعۡظَمُ دَرَجَةٗ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنفَقُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدُ وَقَٰتَلُواْۚ وَكُلّٗا وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِيرٞ ﴾
[الحدِيد: 10]
﴿وما لكم ألا تنفقوا في سبيل الله ولله ميراث السموات والأرض لا﴾ [الحدِيد: 10]
| Dr Kamal Omar And what is (the matter) with you that you do not spend in the Way of Allah? And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. Does not become equal amongst you who spent before (witnessing) the victory and also took part in Qital. Such people are higher in rank in comparison to those who spent afterwards and took part in Qital. And Allah has promised the best to all. And Allah is Well-Acquainted of what you do |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And what is the matter with you that you spend not in the way of God while to God belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? Not on the same level among you are whoever spent before the victory and fought. Those are more sublime in degree than those who spent afterwards and fought. And God promised the fairer to all. And God is Aware of what you do |

| George Sale And what aileth you, that ye contribute not of your substance for the defence of God's true religion? Since unto God appertaineth the inheritance of heaven and earth. Those who spent their wealth and took part in fighting before the Victory cannot be equated (with those who spent their wealth and took part in fighting afterwards).
