﴿يَوۡمَ يَقُولُ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقَٰتُ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱنظُرُونَا نَقۡتَبِسۡ مِن نُّورِكُمۡ قِيلَ ٱرۡجِعُواْ وَرَآءَكُمۡ فَٱلۡتَمِسُواْ نُورٗاۖ فَضُرِبَ بَيۡنَهُم بِسُورٖ لَّهُۥ بَابُۢ بَاطِنُهُۥ فِيهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَةُ وَظَٰهِرُهُۥ مِن قِبَلِهِ ٱلۡعَذَابُ ﴾

﴿يوم يقول المنافقون والمنافقات للذين آمنوا انظرونا نقتبس من نوركم قيل ارجعوا﴾ [الحدِيد: 13]
| Dr Kamal Omar The Day The hypocrite males and hypocrite females will say unto those who had accepted Faith, "Pay us attention, we will share some thing from your Light." Is is said (unto them): "Go back to your rear, then seek light." So a barries was made in between those (two groups); unto it, is a gate — its interior, therein is Mercy; and its exterior, directly in front of it is the torment |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar On a Day will say the males, ones who are hypocrites and females, the ones who are hypocrites to those who believed: Wait for us that we will borrow from your light. It will be said: Return behind and search out for a light. There would be a fence set up between them for which there is a door. That which is inward is mercy and that which is outward is towards the punishment |
| Dr Munir Munshey That day, the hypocrite men and women would say to the believers, "Look at us and let us borrow (and avail) a little of your light." (But) they would be told, "Turn back! Go find your own light!" Thereupon, a wall would be set in place between them and the believers. The gate (in the wall) would lock in (the believers and) the mercy and grace (of Allah) on the inside. While on the outside (of the enclosure) would be nothing but torture |
| Edward Henry Palmer On the day when the hypocrites, men and women, shall say to those who believe, 'Wait for us that we may kindle at your light.' It will be said, 'Get ye back, and beg a light.' And there shall be struck out between them a wall with a door; within it shall be mercy, and outside before it torment |
| Farook Malik On that Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to the true believers: "Wait for us, that we may borrow some of your light." But they will be told: "Go away! Seek your light elsewhere." So a wall with a gate shall be set up between them. Inside there shall be mercy, and outside all along there shall be punishment of hell |
| George Sale On that day the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women shall say unto those who believe, stay for us, that we may borrow some of your light. It shall be answered, return back into the world, and seek light. And a high wall shall be set betwixt them, wherein shall be a gate, within which shall be mercy; and without it, overagainst the same, the torment of hell |
| Maududi On that Day the hypocrites, both men and women, shall say to the believers: "Look at us that we may extract some light from your light." They will be told: "Go back and seek light for yourselves elsewhere." Then a wall shall be erected between them with a door in it. On the inside of it there will be mercy, and on the outside of it there will be chastisement |
