﴿يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِذَا تَنَٰجَيۡتُمۡ فَلَا تَتَنَٰجَوۡاْ بِٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٰنِ وَمَعۡصِيَتِ ٱلرَّسُولِ وَتَنَٰجَوۡاْ بِٱلۡبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقۡوَىٰۖ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ﴾
[المُجَادلة: 9]
﴿ياأيها الذين آمنوا إذا تناجيتم فلا تتناجوا بالإثم والعدوان ومعصية الرسول وتناجوا﴾ [المُجَادلة: 9]
| Dr Kamal Omar O you who have Believed! Whenever you held a secret counsel, then do not have a secret discussion amongst yourselves for sin and opposition, and disobedience of the Messenger. And have private discussion for Al-Birr (the desirable matter) and Taqwa (obedience and piety). And pay obedience to Allah — That One, unto Whom you would be made to assemble |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar O those who believed! When you hold secret counsel, hold not secret counsel in sin and deep-seated dislike and in opposition to the Messenger. But hold secret counsel for virtuous conduct and God-consciousness and be Godfearing of God before Whom you will be assembled |
| Dr Munir Munshey Oh those of you who believe, do not hold secret talks for the sake of committing sins and wrongful acts, and for the sake of disobeying the messenger. Rather, if you hold secret talks, let it be for (the sake of) piety and righteousness; and (above all) fear Allah, before Whom you would all be gathered |
| Edward Henry Palmer O ye who believe! when ye discourse together, then discourse not in sin and enmity and rebellion against the Apostle; but discourse together in righteousness and piety: and fear God, for unto Him ye shall be gathered |
| Farook Malik O believers! When you confer together in private, do not talk about sin and hostility and disobedience to the Messenger; but to counsel about virtue and piety, and fear Allah, before whom you shall be brought together |
| George Sale O true believers, when ye discourse privily together, discourse not of wickedness, and enmity, and disobedience towards the apostle; but discourse of justice, and piety: And fear God, before whom ye shall be assembled |
| Maududi Believers, when you converse in secrecy, let that not be concerning sin and transgression and disobedience to the Messenger; rather, converse concerning virtue and piety. And fear Allah to Whom all of you shall be mustered |
