Dr Kamal Omar And those who had (already) established the house and (had developed) Faith before them: they love that one who migrated towards them, and they do not find any inclination (to keep as their own) out of that Fai which they (the emigrants) have been provided; and they (sons of the soil) give preference (to the emigrants) over their ownselves — even though poverty became their own lot. And whoever has been saved from the covetousness of his own Nafs, then those people: they very ones are the successful |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And those who took their abodes as dwellings and had belief before them, love them who emigrated to them and they find not in their breasts any need for what the emigrants were given and hold them in greater favor over themselves even though they themselves had been in destitution. And whoever is protected from his own stinginess, then, those, they are the ones who prosper |
Dr Munir Munshey And the booties are for those who had houses (in the city) and had accepted the faith before others. (Because) they really love the immigrants who were driven out of their homes and came to them (for help). They do not entertain any greed in their hearts for what others have been given. They prefer others over themselves, even though they are poor. Those who escape the greed within their own hearts, are really the successful ones |
Edward Henry Palmer And those who were settled in the abode and the faith before them, love those who fled to them; and they do not find in their breasts a need of what has been given to them; preferring them to themselves, even though there be poverty amongst them; and whoso is preserved from his own covetousness, these are the prosperous |
Farook Malik A share of the spoils shall also be given to those who made their abode in Medina (the Ansar) and believed even before the arrivals of the immigrants and love those who migrated to them and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to them, and prefer those immigrants over themselves, even though they themselves are poor. In fact those who are saved from the greediness of hearts, are the ones who will achieve true success |
George Sale And they who quietly possessed the town of Medina, and professed the faith without molestation, before them, love him who hath fled unto them, and find in their breasts no want of that which is given the Mohajerin, but prefer them before themselves, although there be indigence among them. And whoso is preserved from the covetousness of his own soul, those shall surely prosper |
Maududi It also belongs to those who were already settled in this abode (of Hijrah) having come to faith before the (arrival of the) Muhajirun (Emigrants). They love those who have migrated to them and do not covet what has been given them; they even prefer them above themselves though poverty be their own lot. And whosoever are preserved from their own greed, such are the ones that will prosper |
