﴿وَمَا لَكُمۡ أَلَّا تَأۡكُلُواْ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ ٱسۡمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيۡهِ وَقَدۡ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ إِلَّا مَا ٱضۡطُرِرۡتُمۡ إِلَيۡهِۗ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرٗا لَّيُضِلُّونَ بِأَهۡوَآئِهِم بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٍۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلۡمُعۡتَدِينَ ﴾
[الأنعَام: 119]
﴿وما لكم ألا تأكلوا مما ذكر اسم الله عليه وقد فصل لكم﴾ [الأنعَام: 119]
| Dr Kamal Omar And what is to you that you will not eat from that on which Allah’s Name was pronounced (at the time of shooting or slaughter)? And verily, He has given you details what He has prohibited unto you — exception (being only that condition when) you became completely helpless towards it. And surely, many definitely lead (mankind) astray under the effect of their vain desires without knowledge. Certainly your Nourisher-Sustainer: He is more Aware with those who break the limits |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And why should you not eat of that over which the Name of God was remembered on it? Surely, He explained distinctly to you what He forbade to you unless you were driven by necessity to it. And, truly, many cause others to go astray by their desires without knowledge. Truly, thy Lord, He is greater in knowledge of the ones who exceed the limits |
| Dr Munir Munshey What keeps you from eating the meat (of the animals) slaughtered in the name of Allah? He has already detailed for you everything that is forbidden for you _ unless you are compelled by dire reasons. Of course, many mislead others without much knowledge, and because of their own lusts and longings. Your Lord knows the transgressors |
