﴿وَمِنۡهُم مَّن يَسۡتَمِعُ إِلَيۡكَۖ وَجَعَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفۡقَهُوهُ وَفِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرٗاۚ وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ كُلَّ ءَايَةٖ لَّا يُؤۡمِنُواْ بِهَاۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءُوكَ يُجَٰدِلُونَكَ يَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ﴾
[الأنعَام: 25]
﴿ومنهم من يستمع إليك وجعلنا على قلوبهم أكنة أن يفقهوه وفي آذانهم﴾ [الأنعَام: 25]
| Dr Kamal Omar And out of them is that who listens to you; and We have set over their hearts a covering that they may understand it (naught) and in their ears, a cork. And if they see every one of the Ayaat (collectively shown to them from Al-Kitab on one particular subject) they will not Believe therein to the point (that) when they came to you they argue with you. The people who have disbelieved say: “(It is) nothing but the writings of the earlier people.” |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And among them are those who listen to thee. But We laid sheathes on their hearts so that they not understand it and in their ears is a heaviness. And if they are to see every sign they will not believe in it. So that when they drew near thee, they dispute with thee. Those who were ungrateful say: This is nothing but fables of the ancient ones |

We have rendered their ears deaf (for the truth). They would not believe even if they see all the signs. To an extent that, they argue and dispute with you when they come to see you. The unbelievers say, "These are just legends invented by those gone by |

Even if they see every one of Our Signs, they will not believe. So much so, that when they come to you, they argue with you. The unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the old times |

And even if they see every Sign, they would not believe therein, so much so that when they come to thee, disputing with thee, those who disbelieve say, 'This is nothing but fables of the ancients |
| Maududi And of them there are some who appear to pay heed to you, but upon their hearts We have laid coverings so they understand it not; and in their ears, heaviness (so they hear not). Even if they were to witness every sign, they would still not believe in it so much so that when they come to you, they dispute with you, those who disbelieve contend: ´This is nothing but fables of the ancient times.´ |
