﴿لَّا يَنۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمۡ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمۡ فِي ٱلدِّينِ وَلَمۡ يُخۡرِجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمۡ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمۡ وَتُقۡسِطُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُقۡسِطِينَ ﴾
[المُمتَحنَة: 8]
﴿لا ينهاكم الله عن الذين لم يقاتلوكم في الدين ولم يخرجوكم من﴾ [المُمتَحنَة: 8]
Dr Kamal Omar Allah does not forbid you against those who indulged not in Qital against you on account of Religion, and did not drive you out from your houses — that you may deal with them politely and kindly and deal justly towards them. Surely, Allah likes those who deal with equity and justice |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar God prohibits you not from those who fight not against you because of your way of life nor drive you out of your abodes so be good and act justly towards them. Truly, God loves the ones who act justly |
Dr Munir Munshey Allah does not forbid you to be just and righteous towards those who did not go into battle against you (over matters of faith), and did not expel you from your homes. Deal with them justly. Allah loves those who are just |

George Sale As to those who have not born arms against you on account of religion, nor turned you out of your dwellings, God forbideth you not to deal kindly with them, and to behave justly towards them; for God loveth those who act justly |
Maududi Allah does not forbid that you be kind and just to those who did not fight against you on account of religion, nor drove you out of your homes. Surely Allah loves those who are equitable |
