[الأعرَاف: 131]
﴿فإذا جاءتهم الحسنة قالوا لنا هذه وإن تصبهم سيئة يطيروا بموسى ومن﴾ [الأعرَاف: 131]
Dr Kamal Omar Then as came to them the relief (from this period of test) they said: “(The credit) of this goes to us and if an evil afflicts them they regard (it) as an evil-effect associated with Musa and those with him. Behold! Surely, whatever (is) evil-omen to them, is stored with Allah (and He allows its appearance as a punishment and as a trial) |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And when benevolence drew near them, they would say: This belongs to us. But if an evil deed lights on them, they augur ill of Moses and who were with him. Certainly, that which are their omens are with God except most of them know not |
Dr Munir Munshey When the good times arrived, they said, "We deserve this!" But when misfortune struck, they associated an evil omen with Musa and his companions, and blamed them for the hard times. Their evil omen exists with Allah! But most of them do not realize |
Edward Henry Palmer but when there came to them a good thing they said, 'This is ours;' and if there befell them an evil, they took the augury from Moses and those with him; - is not their augury only in God's hands? - but most of them know not |
Farook Malik But whenever they had good times they said "It is our due," and whenever evil befell them, they ascribed that bad luck to Moses and those with him. Behold! In fact their misfortune was in the hands of Allah; yet most of them do not know |
George Sale But whenever good befell them, they said, 'This is for us.' And if evil afflicted them, they ascribed the evil fortune to Moses and those with him. Now, surely, the cause of their evil fortune was with God. But most of them know not |
Maududi But whenever prosperity came their way, they said: ´This is our due.´ And whatever hardship befell them, they attributed it to the misfortune of Moses and those who followed him. Surely, their misfortune had been decreed by Allah - but most of them do not know that |
