﴿وَبَيۡنَهُمَا حِجَابٞۚ وَعَلَى ٱلۡأَعۡرَافِ رِجَالٞ يَعۡرِفُونَ كُلَّۢا بِسِيمَىٰهُمۡۚ وَنَادَوۡاْ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَن سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡۚ لَمۡ يَدۡخُلُوهَا وَهُمۡ يَطۡمَعُونَ ﴾
[الأعرَاف: 46]
﴿وبينهما حجاب وعلى الأعراف رجال يعرفون كلا بسيماهم ونادوا أصحاب الجنة أن﴾ [الأعرَاف: 46]
Dr Kamal Omar And between those two groups there will be a barrier-screen and on Al-A’raf will be men: they recognise all by their marks (of submission to Al-Kitab). And they called out to the (would be) companions of Paradise thus: “Salamun Alaikum (Peace and tranquility be over you).” They (who are greeted thus) have not (yet) entered this (Paradise) but they desire (it on the basis of the Faith and deeds) |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And between them both is a partition. And on the Elevated Places will be men who recognize everyone by their mark. And they will cry out to the Companions of the Garden that: Peace be on you. They enter it not and they are desirous of it |
Dr Munir Munshey A barrier shall exist between the two groups _ (those in paradise and those in hell). At a height would be (a third group of) men who would long to enter paradise, but would not have entered it yet. They would recognize all by their distinctive features. To the people of paradise they would say, "Peace upon you |

Farook Malik Between the two, there shall be a veil, and on the A‘raf (heights) there will be people who will recognize them by their features. They will call out to the residents of Paradise: "Peace be upon you!" They will not have yet entered it, though they will have the hope |
George Sale And between the blessed and the damned there shall be a vail; and men shall stand on Al Araf, who shall know every one of them by their marks; and shall call unto the inhabitants of paradise, saying, peace be upon you: Yet they shall not enter therein, although they earnestly desire it |
Maududi And between the two there will be a barrier, and on the Heights will be men who will recognize each person by his mark and will cry, out to the people of Paradise: ´Peace be to you.´These will be the ones who had not yet joined them in Paradise, though they long to do so |
