Quran with British translation - Surah al-‘Imran ayat 79 - آل عِمران - Page - Juz 3

It is not for a human being whom Allah has given the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood to say to the people, “Be my worshipers instead of Allah.” Rather, he would say, “Be devoted servants of your Lord because of your teaching of the Scripture and because of your study thereof.”

Mohammad Habib Shakir
It is not meet for a mortal that Allah should give him the Book and the wisdom and prophethood, then he should say to men: Be my servants rather than Allah's; but rather (he would say): Be worshippers of the Lord because of your teaching the Book and your reading (it yourselves)
Mohammad Shafi
A man, whom Allah has given the Book and the Command and the Prophethood, cannot say to the people, "Be worshippers of me besides Allah." But be you all faithful worshippers of your Lord in accordance with what you have been teaching from the Book and in accordance with what you have been studying/learning from it
Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
It is not (possible) for any human being unto whom Allah had given the Scripture and wisdom and the prophethood that he should afterwards have said unto mankind: Be slaves of me instead of Allah; but (what he said was): Be ye faithful servants of the Lord by virtue of your constant teaching of the Scripture and of your constant study thereof
Mufti Taqi Usmani
It is not (possible) for a man that Allah gives him the Book, the wisdom and the prophethood, then he starts saying to the people “Become my worshippers, aside from Allah” rather, (he would say), “Be men of the Lord; as you have been teaching the Book, and as you have been learning it.”
Muhammad Asad
It is not conceivable that a human being unto whom God had granted revelation, and sound judgment, and prophethood, should thereafter have said unto people, "Worship me beside God"; but rather [did he exhort them], "Become men of God by spreading the knowledge of the divine writ, and by your own deep study [thereof]
Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali
In no way should a mortal (to whom) Allah brings the Book and the Judgment and the Prophethood thereafter say to mankind, "Be bondmen to me, apart from Allah." But, (i.e. But he should say) "Be lordly (i.e. teachers of Divine Law and worshipers of Allah) in that you used to teach the Book and in that you used to study (it)
Muhammad Sarwar
God would never give the Book, authority, or prophesy to any person who would tell others to be his servants instead of being the servants of God. He would rather tell them to worship God for they had been teaching and studying the Book
Muhammad Taqi Usmani
It is not (possible) for a man that Allah gives him the Book, the wisdom and the prophethood, then he starts saying to the people .Become my worshippers, aside from Allah. rather, (he would say), .Be men of the Lord; as you have been teaching the Book, and as you have been learning it
Mustafa Khattab Allah Edition
It is not appropriate for someone who Allah has blessed with the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood to say to people, “Worship me instead of Allah.” Rather, he would say, “Be devoted to the worship of your Lord ˹alone˺”—in accordance with what these prophets read in the Scripture and what they taught
Mustafa Khattab God Edition
It is not appropriate for someone who God has blessed with the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood to say to people, “Worship me instead of God.” Rather, he would say, “Be devoted to the worship of your Lord ˹alone˺”—in accordance with what these prophets read in the Scripture and what they taught
N J Dawood
No mortal to whom God has given the Book and wisdom and prophethood would say to people: ‘Worship me instead of God.‘ But rather: ‘Be devoted masters, for you have taught and studied the Book.‘
Safi Kaskas
It is inconceivable that a man could have been given the Book, Wisdom and Prophecy by God and then have told people, "Worship me instead of God," rather than, "Be godly teachers because of what you were taught from the Book and because of what you have studied
