You see those with sickness in their hearts rushing to them, saying, “We fear a misfortune may strike us.” Perhaps Allah will bring about victory or some other decision from Himself, then they will regret for what they kept hidden in their hearts

﴿فترى الذين في قلوبهم مرض يسارعون فيهم يقولون نخشى أن تصيبنا دائرة﴾ [المَائدة: 52]

Mohammad Habib Shakir
But you will see those in whose hearts is a disease hastening towards them, saying: We fear lest a calamity should befall us; but it may be that Allah will bring the victory or a punishment from Himself, so that they shall be regretting on account of what they hid in their souls
Mohammad Shafi
And you will see those, in whose hearts is a disease, to be active in their company. They say, "We fear a turn of fortune afflicting us." And it may well be that Allah will bring about victory or such event, by His Will, that they become ashamed of their secret feelings
Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
And thou seest those in whose heart is a disease race toward them, saying: We fear lest a change of fortune befall us. And it may happen that Allah will vouchsafe (unto thee) the victory, or a commandment from His presence. Then will they repent them of their secret thoughts
Mufti Taqi Usmani
Now, you see those who have disease in their hearts race towards them saying, “We apprehend that some misfortune may overtake us.”So, it is likely that Allah may bring victory or something else from His own side, whereupon they will become regretful over what they concealed in their hearts
Muhammad Asad
And yet thou canst see how those in whose hearts there is disease vie with one another for their good will, saying [to themselves], "We fear lest fortune turn against us." But God may well bring about good fortune [for the believers] or any [other] event of His own devising, whereupon those [waverers] will be smitten with remorse for the thoughts which they had secretly harboured within themselves
Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali
So you see the ones in whose hearts is sickness vie swiftly with one another among them. They say, "We are apprehensive lest a turn of (bad) fortune should afflict us." Yet it may be that Allah will come up with the conquest, or a Command from His Providence, so they will be remorseful for what they kept secret within themselves
Muhammad Sarwar
(Muhammad), you have seen those whose hearts are sick, running around among the people (Jews) saying, "We are afraid of being struck by disaster." But if God were to grant you victory or some other favors, they would then regret for what they had been hiding in their souls
Muhammad Taqi Usmani
Now, you see those who have disease in their hearts race towards them saying, .We apprehend that some misfortune may overtake us. So, it is likely that Allah may bring victory or something else from His own side, whereupon they will become regretful over what they concealed in their hearts
Mustafa Khattab Allah Edition
You see those with sickness in their hearts racing for their guardianship, saying ˹in justification˺, “We fear a turn of fortune will strike us.” But perhaps Allah will bring about ˹your˺ victory or another favour by His command, and they will regret what they have hidden in their hearts
Mustafa Khattab God Edition
You see those with sickness in their hearts racing for their guardianship, saying ˹in justification˺, “We fear a turn of fortune will strike us.” But perhaps God will bring about ˹your˺ victory or another favour by His command, and they will regret what they have hidden in their hearts
N J Dawood
You see the faint-hearted hastening to woo them. They say: ‘We fear lest a change of fortune should befall us.‘ But it may well be that when God grants victory or makes known His will, they will regret their secret plans
Safi Kaskas
You [Prophet] will see those with perverse hearts rushing to them and saying, "We are afraid that fortune may turn against us." God may bring about good fortune for the believers, or He may not. Then they will be overcome with remorse for the thoughts that they secretly harbored
