Quran with English translation - Surah Al-An‘am ayat 42 - الأنعَام - Page - Juz 7
﴿وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُم بِٱلۡبَأۡسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ ﴾
[الأنعَام: 42]
﴿ولقد أرسلنا إلى أمم من قبلك فأخذناهم بالبأساء والضراء لعلهم يتضرعون﴾ [الأنعَام: 42]
| Al Bilal Muhammad Et Al Before you We sent much to many nations. And We afflicted the nations with suffering and adversity that they may experience virtue |
| Ali Bakhtiari Nejad And We have certainly sent (messengers) to communities before you, then We took them with the suffering and the hardship so they may be humble |
| Ali Quli Qarai We have certainly sent [apostles] to nations before you, then We seized them with stress and distress so that they might entreat [Us] |
| Ali Unal And We did indeed send Messengers to the communities before you, and We seized those (communities) with trials and tribulations so that they might invoke Us with humility (seeking the truth and forgiveness) |
| Hamid S Aziz Ere this We sent unto nations before you, and We sent them distress and adversity that per chance (or possibly) they might humble themselves |

| Literal And We had sent to nations from before you, so We took/punished them with the misery/hardship/fear and the calamity, maybe they become humble and humiliate themselves (to God) |
