[المُمتَحنَة: 4]
﴿قد كانت لكم أسوة حسنة في إبراهيم والذين معه إذ قالوا لقومهم﴾ [المُمتَحنَة: 4]
Al Bilal Muhammad Et Al There is for you an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, “We are clear of you and of whatever you worship besides God. We have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred forever, unless you believe in God, and Him alone”. Except when Abraham said to his father, “I will pray for forgiveness for you, though I have no power on your behalf from God, “Our Lord, in You do we trust, and to You do we turn in repentance, to You is our final goal.” |
Ali Bakhtiari Nejad There has been a good example for you in Abraham and those with him when they said to their people: we are free of (and have nothing to do with) you and whatever you serve other than God, we disbelieve in you, and an unending enmity and hatred started between us and you until you believe in God alone. Except Abraham's word to his father: I shall ask forgiveness for you, although I don’t have power of anything for you from God. Our Master, we trust in You and we turn to You (in repentance) and the final return is to You |
Ali Quli Qarai There is certainly a good exemplar for you in Abraham and those who were with him, when they said to their own people, ‘Indeed we repudiate you and whatever you worship besides Allah. We disown you, and enmity and hate have appeared between you and us for ever, unless you come to have faith in Allah alone,’ apart from Abraham’s saying to his father, ‘I will surely plead forgiveness for you, though I cannot avail you anything against Allah.’ ‘Our Lord! In You do we put our trust, and to You do we turn penitently, and toward You is the destination |
Ali Unal Indeed you have had an excellent example to follow in Abraham and those in his company, when they said to their (idolatrous) people (who were their kin): "We are quit of you and whatever you worship besides God. We have rejected you (in your polytheism), and there has arisen between us and you enmity and hate forever until you believe in God alone (as the only One to be worshipped." (So it was) except for Abraham’s saying to his father: "I most surely will plead for God’s forgiveness for you, though I have no power at all to do anything for you against God." (And their prayer was): "O Our Lord! It is in You that We have put our trust, and it is to You that we turn in utmost sincerity and devotion, and to You is the homecoming |
Hamid S Aziz Indeed, there is for you a good example in Abraham and those with him when they said to their people, "Surely we are clear of you and of what you serve besides Allah; we have rejected you, and enmity and hostility have appeared between us and you for |
John Medows Rodwell A good example had ye in Abraham, and in those who followed him, when they said to their people, "Verily, we are clear of you, and of what ye worship beside God: we renounce you: and between us and hath hatred and enmity sprung up for ever, until ye believe in God alone." Yet imitate not the language of Abraham to his Father, "I will pray for thy forgiveness, but not aught shall I obtain for thee from God." O our Lord! in thee do we trust! to thee do we turn! to thee we shall come back at the last |
Literal A good example/model (to follow) had been for you in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their nation: "We are innocent/separating from you, and from what you worship from other than God, we disbelieved with you, and the animosity and the intense hatred appeared between us and between you (for) ever (E), until you believe with (in) God alone." Except Abraham`s word/statement to his father: "I will ask for forgiveness for you, and I do not own/possess for you from God from a thing, our Lord, on You we relied depended (on) , and to You we returned/repented , and to You (is) the end/destination |
Mir Anees Original There is indeed a good example for you to follow, in Ibrahim and those with him when they said to their people, “We are free of you and that which you worship besides Allah, we do not believe with you, and enmity and hatred has become manifest between us and you for ever, unless you (too) believe in Allah Who is One,” but for the word of Ibrahim to his father, “I will definitely ask protective forgiveness for you though I do not control for you anything from Allah. Our Fosterer! in You do we put our trust and towards You do we turn and towards You is the destination |
Mir Aneesuddin There is indeed a good example for you to follow, in Abraham and those with him when they said to their people, “We are free of you and that which you worship besides God, we do not believe with you, and enmity and hatred has become manifest between us and you for ever, unless you (too) believe in God Who is One,” but for the word of Abraham to his father, “I will definitely ask protective forgiveness for you though I do not control for you anything from God.
