﴿وَٱلَّذِينَ كَسَبُواْ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ جَزَآءُ سَيِّئَةِۭ بِمِثۡلِهَا وَتَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٞۖ مَّا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۡ عَاصِمٖۖ كَأَنَّمَآ أُغۡشِيَتۡ وُجُوهُهُمۡ قِطَعٗا مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ مُظۡلِمًاۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ ﴾
[يُونس: 27]
﴿والذين كسبوا السيئات جزاء سيئة بمثلها وترهقهم ذلة ما لهم من الله﴾ [يُونس: 27]
| Dr Kamal Omar And those who have earned evil deeds — the recompense of an evil deed is the like thereof, and disgrace shall cover them, there is not for them against Allah a defender. As it were, their faces got covered from the portion of the night that completely darkens (the sight). They are companions of the Fire. They will be dwellers therein |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And for those who earned evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed will be its like and abasement will come over them. They will have none but God as One Who Saves from Harm. It is as if their faces were covered with a strip of the night, one in darkness. Those are the Companions of the Fire. They are ones who will dwell in it forever |
| Dr Munir Munshey But those committing evil deeds shall receive punishment equal to their deeds. Disgrace will drench them from above. They shall have nobody to rescue them. Their faces would be dark, as if night has come to settle over them. They are the inmates of the hell-fire; in it shall they stay forever |
| Edward Henry Palmer But, as for those who have earned ill, the reward of evil is the like thereof; abasement shall cover them! they shall have none to defend them against God;- as though their faces were veiled with the deep darkness of the night; these are the fellows of the Fire, and they shall dwell therein for aye |
| Farook Malik As for those who have done evil deeds, they will be rewarded with like evil: disgrace will cover them - they shall have none to protect them from Allah - as if their faces have been covered with patches of the dense darkness of night. They will become the inmates of the Fire; they will live therein forever |
| George Sale But they who commit evil shall receive the reward of evil, equal thereunto, and they shall be covered with shame, -- for they shall have no protector against God; -- as though their faces were covered with the profound darkness of the night. These shall be the inhabitants of hell fire; they shall remain therein for ever |
| Maududi Those who do evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is its like, and humiliation shall spread over them and there will be none to protect them from Allah. Darkness will cover their faces as though they were veiled with the dark blackness of night. These are the people of the Fire and in it they shall abide |
