﴿ٱقۡتُلُواْ يُوسُفَ أَوِ ٱطۡرَحُوهُ أَرۡضٗا يَخۡلُ لَكُمۡ وَجۡهُ أَبِيكُمۡ وَتَكُونُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ قَوۡمٗا صَٰلِحِينَ ﴾
[يُوسُف: 9]
﴿اقتلوا يوسف أو اطرحوه أرضا يخل لكم وجه أبيكم وتكونوا من بعده﴾ [يُوسُف: 9]
| Dr Kamal Omar Kill Yusuf or cast him out to (some far away) land so that the attention of your father becomes exclusive for you and you pretend after this (incident as members of a) nation of reformers.” |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Kill Joseph or fling him to some other region to free the face of your father for you. You be a folk after that ones in accord with morality |
| Dr Munir Munshey Let us kill Yusuf or cast him in a distant land. Our father´s attention will then be ours, exclusively! Later we will revert, and be pious |
| Edward Henry Palmer Slay Joseph, or cast him in some land; that your father's face may be free for you, and ye may be, after he is gone, a people who do right |
| Farook Malik Let us kill Joseph or throw him out to some far-off land so that the attention of our father turns exclusively towards us, after that, we may again become righteous people |
| George Sale Wherefore slay Joseph, or drive him into some distant or desert part of the earth, and the face of your father shall be cleared towards you; and ye shall afterwards be people of integrity |
| Maududi So either kill Joseph or cast him into some distant land so that your father´s attention may become exclusively yours. And after so doing become righteous |
