﴿۞ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَرۡجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا لَوۡلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ أَوۡ نَرَىٰ رَبَّنَاۗ لَقَدِ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ فِيٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَعَتَوۡ عُتُوّٗا كَبِيرٗا ﴾
[الفُرقَان: 21]
﴿وقال الذين لا يرجون لقاءنا لولا أنـزل علينا الملائكة أو نرى ربنا﴾ [الفُرقَان: 21]
| Dr Kamal Omar And said those who expect not for a meeting with Us: “Why not have been sent down unto us the angels or (that) we may see our Nourisher-Sustainer?" Surely, indeed they thought too highly of themselves and exceeded the limits to a transgression, monstrous |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Those who hope not for a meeting with Us said: Why were angels not caused to descend to us and why see we not our Lord? Surely, they grew arrogant among themselves, defiant, turning in great disdain |

| Maududi Those people, who have no fear of coming before Us, say,"Why should not the angels be sent down to us? Or else we should see our Lord. " Great arrogance have they assumed in regard to themselves, and have transgressed all limits in their rebellion |
