﴿وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفۡسٍ أَن تَمُوتَ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ كِتَٰبٗا مُّؤَجَّلٗاۗ وَمَن يُرِدۡ ثَوَابَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا نُؤۡتِهِۦ مِنۡهَا وَمَن يُرِدۡ ثَوَابَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ نُؤۡتِهِۦ مِنۡهَاۚ وَسَنَجۡزِي ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ ﴾
[آل عِمران: 145]
﴿وما كان لنفس أن تموت إلا بإذن الله كتابا مؤجلا ومن يرد﴾ [آل عِمران: 145]
Dr Kamal Omar And it is not for a life that she dies, except by the permission of Allah (and this happens at) an appointed term. And whoever desires reward in the world We shall give him of it; and whoever desires reward in the Hereafter, We shall give him thereof. And soon We shall reward the grateful |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar It had not been for any soul to die, but with the permission of God. Prescribed is that which is appointed. And whoever wants a reward for good deeds in the present, We will give him that. And whoever wants a reward for good deeds in the world to come We will give him that. And We will give recompense to the ones who are thankful |

We will bestow (the benefits) here (in this world) upon anyone who wants (the results and) rewards (of his effort) in this world. Edward Henry Palmer It is not for any soul to die, save by God's permission written down for an appointed time; but he who wishes for the reward of this world we will give him of it, and he who wishes for the reward of the future we will give him of it, and we will recompense the grateful |

George Sale No soul can die unless by the permission of God, according to what is written in the book containing the determinations of things. And whoso chooseth the reward of this world, we will give him thereof: But whoso chooseth the reward of the world to come, we will give him thereof; and we will surely reward the thankful |
