﴿فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتۡهَا قَالَتۡ رَبِّ إِنِّي وَضَعۡتُهَآ أُنثَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا وَضَعَتۡ وَلَيۡسَ ٱلذَّكَرُ كَٱلۡأُنثَىٰۖ وَإِنِّي سَمَّيۡتُهَا مَرۡيَمَ وَإِنِّيٓ أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ ﴾
[آل عِمران: 36]
﴿فلما وضعتها قالت رب إني وضعتها أنثى والله أعلم بما وضعت وليس﴾ [آل عِمران: 36]
Dr Kamal Omar Then when she delivered that (what was in her womb) she said: “My Nourisher-Sustainer! Certainly I delivered that (as) a female (child),” — and Allah (is always) a Better Knower about what she delivered, and the male (child she had in her mind) would not have (fulfilled the role) the way the female (fulfilled); “and certainly I, I have given her the name, Maryam, and certainly I put her to protection, to You (O Allah,) and (also) her offspring against (the evil effects of) Satan, the outcast.” |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Then, when she brought forth she said: My Lord! Truly, I brought her forth, a female. And God is greater in knowledge of what she brought forth. And the male is not like the female. And, truly, I named her Mary. And, truly, I commend her to Thy protection and her offspring from the accursed Satan |
Dr Munir Munshey When she delivered, she said, "My Lord, I gave birth to a female." Allah was well aware of what she had delivered. The male is not like a female; and (Mary said), "I have named her Mary. I seek Your protection for her and her progeny from the (evil of the) accursed Shaitan |
Edward Henry Palmer And when she brought it forth she said, 'Verily, I have brought it forth a female' - but God knew best what she brought forth; and a male is not like a female - 'I have called her Mary, and I seek a refuge in Thee for her and for her seed from Satan the pelted |
Farook Malik When she gave birth to a girl instead of a boy, she said: "My Lord! I have given birth to a girl," - Allah knew very well what she had delivered - "and that the male is not like the female, I have named her Mary and I seek Your protection for her and her children from the mischief of Satan, the accursed |
George Sale And when she was delivered of it, she said, Lord, verily I have brought forth a female, -- and God well knew what she had brought forth -- and a male is not as a female: I have called her Mary; and I commend her to thy protection, and also her issue, against Satan driven away with stones |
Maududi But when she gave birth to a female child, she said: ´O Lord! I have given birth to a female´ - and Allah knew full well what she had given birth to - ´and a female is not the same as a male. I have named her Mary and commit her and her offspring to You for protection from Satan, the accursed.´ |
