﴿وَقَالَت طَّآئِفَةٞ مِّنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ءَامِنُواْ بِٱلَّذِيٓ أُنزِلَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَجۡهَ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَٱكۡفُرُوٓاْ ءَاخِرَهُۥ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ ﴾
[آل عِمران: 72]
﴿وقالت طائفة من أهل الكتاب آمنوا بالذي أنـزل على الذين آمنوا وجه﴾ [آل عِمران: 72]
Dr Kamal Omar And a group out of the people of Al-Kitab said: “Accept that which has been made evident on those who have Believed, at the start of the day, and reject it at its end, so that they (also) turn back (and become disbelievers) |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And a section of the People of the Book said: Believe in what was caused to descend to those who believed at the beginning of the daytime. Disbelieve at the last of the day so that perhaps they will return to disbelief |
Dr Munir Munshey A faction of the people of the book said (to each other), "At the start of the day, express belief in what has been revealed to the believers, but renounce it in the evening. Perhaps, (by such means) they would (repudiate and) turn back (from their beliefs) |
Edward Henry Palmer A sect of the people of the Book say, 'Believe in what was revealed to those who believed at the first appearance of the day, and disbelieve it at the end thereof,' - that (others) may perchance go back (from their faith) |
Farook Malik Some of the People of the Book say to one another: "Believe in what is revealed to the believers (Muslims) in the morning and deny it in the evening; so that they (the Muslims) may follow suit and abandon their faith |
George Sale And some of those to whom the scriptures were given, say, believe in that which hath been sent down unto those who believe, in the beginning of the day; and deny it in the end thereof; that they may go back from their faith |
Maududi A party of the People of the Book said: ´Believe in the morning what has been revealed to those who believe, and then deny it in the evening that they may thus retract (from their faith).´ |
