Quran with Tafsir_English translation - Surah al-‘Imran ayat 79 - آل عِمران - Page - Juz 3

It is hardly intelligible that a human on whom Allah confers the Book and the wisdom and the prerogative of Prophethood would demand of the people to worship him in lieu of Allah. Rather he would ask of them by virtue of right and authority to pay reverence and veneration to Allah, the Creator, and to adore Him with appropriate acts and rites and devotion. This is the logical sequence which Allah has imparted to them, the divine knowledge which they have imparted to people, the divine knowledge which they themselves have applied their minds to its acquisition

Dr Kamal Omar
It suits not a human being that Allah may give him Al-Kitab and Al-Hukm (The Verdict) and An-Nubuwwah, then he says to people: “Be Ibad to me in derogation to Allah.” On the contrary (Allah tells them): “Be you Rabbaniyyun because you transmit and teach (the knowledge of) Al-Kitab and because you had been studying (it).”
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar
It had not been for a mortal that God should give him the Book and critical judgment and the prophethood and, again, he say to humanity: Be you servants of me instead of God! Rather, he would say: Be you masters, because you had been teaching the Book and because you had been studying it
Dr Munir Munshey
It is not (conceivable) that a man, upon whom Allah confers the book, the wisdom, and the prophethood, would later say to people, "Be my devotees (and worship me) instead of Allah!" Rather (he would say), "Be the faithful servants of Allah, since you teach the scriptures and study them
Edward Henry Palmer
It is not right for a man that God should give him a Book, and judgment, and prophecy, and that then he should say to men, 'Be ye servants of mine rather than of God;' but be ye rather masters of teaching the Book and of what ye learn
Farook Malik
It is not possible for a man whom Allah has given the Book, the Wisdom and the Prophethood, that he would say to the people: "Worship me instead of Allah." On the contrary he would say: "Be devoted worshippers of your Lord in accordance with the Holy Book you have been teaching and reading
George Sale
It is not fit for a man, that God should give him a book of revelations, and wisdom, and prophecy; and then he should say unto men, be ye worshippers of me, besides God; but he ought to say, be ye perfect in knowledge and in works, since ye know the scriptures, and exercise your selves therein
Maududi
It does not befit a man that Allah should grant him His Book and sound judgement and prophet-hood, and thereafter he should say to men: ´Become servants to me apart from Allah.´ He would rather say: ´Become dedicated men of Allah, in accord with the dictates of the Book you have been teaching and studying.´
