﴿وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ دُونَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ ﴾
[السَّجدة: 21]
﴿ولنذيقنهم من العذاب الأدنى دون العذاب الأكبر لعلهم يرجعون﴾ [السَّجدة: 21]
| Dr Kamal Omar And verily, We will make them taste out of a nearer torment (in this present world) besides the greater torment (in the life to come) in order that they may turn (to the Book of Allah) |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And, certainly, We will cause them to experience the closer punishment other than the greater punishment so that perhaps they will return |
| Dr Munir Munshey Prior to that greater punishment (in the afterlife), We will also, most certainly, have them taste (many) smaller miseries (in this world). Perhaps they will come back (to their senses) |
| Edward Henry Palmer and we will surely make them taste of the torment of the nearer torment beside the greater torment, - haply they may yet return |
| Farook Malik We shall certainly make them taste the lighter torment in this life before the greater punishment of the hereafter, so that they may return to the Right Way |
| George Sale And we will cause them to taste the nearer punishment of this world, besides the more grievous punishment of the next; peradventure they will repent |
| Maududi We shall certainly have them taste some chastisement in this world in addition to the greater chastisement (of the Hereafter); perhaps they will retract (from their transgression) |
