﴿وَلِسُلَيۡمَٰنَ ٱلرِّيحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهۡرٞ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَهۡرٞۖ وَأَسَلۡنَا لَهُۥ عَيۡنَ ٱلۡقِطۡرِۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ مَن يَعۡمَلُ بَيۡنَ يَدَيۡهِ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَمَن يَزِغۡ مِنۡهُمۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِنَا نُذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ ﴾
[سَبإ: 12]
﴿ولسليمان الريح غدوها شهر ورواحها شهر وأسلنا له عين القطر ومن الجن﴾ [سَبإ: 12]
Dr Kamal Omar And for Sulaiman (We subdued) the wind; its morning (stride from sunrise till midnoon was) a month (in journey), and its afternoon (stride from the decline of the sun to sunset was) a month (in journey, i.e., , in a day-time Sulaiman used to cover two months’ travel). And We caused a fount of (molten) copper to flow for him. And (there were) from amongst jinns that would work between his two hands (i.e., before him or in his presence or under his command) under the permission of his Nourisher-Sustainer. And whosoever of them will show dereliction of duty against Our Command, We shall cause him to taste of the torment of the blazing Fire |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar And to Solomon We subjected the wind. The first part of the day was a month’s journey and the evening course was a month’s journey. We caused a spring of molten brass to flow for him. And We gave him of the jinn who work in advance of him with the permission of his Lord. Whoever of them swerved from Our command We caused him to experience the punishment of the blaze |
Dr Munir Munshey And to Sulaiman (We granted control over) the wind. (Harnessing that control) he could cover the distance of a month´s journey during the run of the wind in just one morning; and come back during the course of the wind in the evening. We caused a stream of copper to gush forth for him. By the will of Allah, the jinn worked under his supervision. Whenever a jinn ignored the command and turned away from his job, We made that jinn taste the torment of the blazing fire |
Edward Henry Palmer And to Solomon the wind; its morning journey was a month, and its evening journey was a month; and we made to flow for him a fountain of molten brass; and of the ginns some to work before him by the permission of his Lord; and whoso swerves amongst them from our bidding we will give him to taste the torment and the blaze |
Farook Malik And We made the winds subservient to Solomon, which made a month’s journey in the morning and a month’s journey in the evening; and We made a fountain of molten copper to flow for him; and subdued Jinns for him who worked in front of him by the leave of his Lord; and if any of them turned aside from Our command, We made Him taste the punishment of the blazing fire |
George Sale And We made the wind subject unto Solomon: It blew in the morning for a month, and in the evening for a month. And We made a fountain of molten brass to flow for him. And some of the genii were obliged to work in his presence, by the will of his Lord; and whoever of them turned aside from our command, We will cause him to taste the pain of hell fire |
Maududi And We subdued the wind to Solomon: its morning course was a month´s journey and its evening course was a month´s journey. We gave him a spring flowing with molten brass, and We subdued for him jinn who, by his Lord´s permission, worked before him. Such of them as swerved from Our commandment, We let them taste the chastisement of the Blazing Fire |
