﴿وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَايَٰتُنَا بَيِّنَٰتٖ قَالُواْ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا رَجُلٞ يُرِيدُ أَن يَصُدَّكُمۡ عَمَّا كَانَ يَعۡبُدُ ءَابَآؤُكُمۡ وَقَالُواْ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ إِفۡكٞ مُّفۡتَرٗىۚ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمۡ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ مُّبِينٞ ﴾
[سَبإ: 43]
﴿وإذا تتلى عليهم آياتنا بينات قالوا ما هذا إلا رجل يريد أن﴾ [سَبإ: 43]
| Dr Kamal Omar And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, they said: “What is he, except a male-adult who intends that he may deviate you people from that what your fathers (i.e., ancestors) used to worship.” And they (also) said: “(It is) not but a lie which has been forged.” And those who disbelieved said regarding Al-Haqq (The Truth) when it reached them: “(It is) not but evident magic!” [Being convinced of its magical effects in demolishing their ancient beliefs and concepts, they brought such comments] |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar When are recounted to them Our signs, clear portents, they said: This is not but a man who wants to bar you from what your fathers had been worshipping. And they said: This is not but a forged calumny. And those who were ungrateful for The Truth said when it drew near them: Truly, this is but clear sorcery |
| Dr Munir Munshey When Our clear lucid verses (of the Qur´an) are recited, they say, "He is just a man; he wants to distract you away from worshipping what your forefathers used to worship." They say, "This is nothing but fantasy, a lie!" When the (absolute) truth came to them, the unbelievers responded to it by saying, "This is evidently nothing but magic |

Others say: "This Qur’an is nothing but an invented falsehood." While yet others, who deny the truth when it comes to them, say: "This is nothing but plain magic |
| George Sale When our evident signs are read unto them, they say of thee, O Mohammed, this is no other than a man, who seeketh to turn you aside from the gods which your fathers worshipped. And they say of the Koran, this is no other than a lie blasphemously forged. And the unbelievers say of the truth, when it is come unto them, this is no other than manifest sorcery |
| Maududi When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them they say: "This is a person who wants to turn you away from the deities whom your ancestors worshipped." They say: "This is nothing but an invented falsehood." And when the Truth came to the unbelievers they declared: "This is nothing but plain sorcery |
