﴿فَكَيۡفَ إِذَآ أَصَٰبَتۡهُم مُّصِيبَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ ثُمَّ جَآءُوكَ يَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنۡ أَرَدۡنَآ إِلَّآ إِحۡسَٰنٗا وَتَوۡفِيقًا ﴾
[النِّسَاء: 62]
﴿فكيف إذا أصابتهم مصيبة بما قدمت أيديهم ثم جاءوك يحلفون بالله إن﴾ [النِّسَاء: 62]
Dr Kamal Omar Then how (it is that) when a catastrophe befell them because of what their hands sent forth — afterwards they came to you. (And) they swear by Allah, ’we did not intend but to do good and to do conciliation!’ |
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar How then will it be when they are lit on by an affliction for what their hands put forward? Again, they drew near thee, swearing by God: Truly, we wanted but kindness and conciliation |
Dr Munir Munshey Why is it that, when disaster strikes because of what their own hands have caused, they come to you swearing? They say, "By Allah, we only wanted to promote good will, and be gracious |
Edward Henry Palmer How then when there befalls them a mischance through what their hands have sent on before? then will they come to you, and swear by God, 'We meant naught but good and concord |
Farook Malik But see how they behave when they get into trouble as a consequence of their own doings? They come to you swearing by Allah that they desired nothing but to promote good and bring about a reconciliation |
George Sale But how will they behave when a misfortune shall befall them, for that which their hands have sent before them? Then will they come unto thee, and swear by God, saying, if we intended any other, than to do good, and to reconcile the parties |
Maududi But what happens when some misfortune visits them because of their own misdeeds? Then, they come to you swearing by Allah, saying: ´We wanted nothing but to do good and to bring about conciliation (between the two parties)´ |
