﴿لَّقَدۡ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡمَسِيحُ ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَۚ قُلۡ فَمَن يَمۡلِكُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡـًٔا إِنۡ أَرَادَ أَن يُهۡلِكَ ٱلۡمَسِيحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥ وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗاۗ وَلِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۚ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ ﴾
[المَائدة: 17]
﴿لقد كفر الذين قالوا إن الله هو المسيح ابن مريم قل فمن﴾ [المَائدة: 17]
| Dr Kamal Omar Indeed, committed disbelief those who said: “Surely Allah: He (is) Al-Maseeh (The Messiah) Ibn-e-Maryam (son of Mary).” Say: “Then who possesses, against Allah, any (power) if He desired that He may destroy (to naught) Al-Maseeh, Ibn-e-Maryam and his mother and whoever is in the earth — all together?” And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between the two. He creates what he desires. And Allah is All-Capable over everything |
| Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Certainly, ungrateful were those who said: Truly, God is the Messiah, the son of Mary. Say: Who, then, has any sway over God? If He wanted to He would cause the Messiah son of Mary and his mother to perish and whatever is in and on the earth altogether. To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between the two. He creates what He wills. And God is Powerful over everything |
| Dr Munir Munshey Those who said that the Messiah, (Jesus), son of Mary is God Himself (or god incarnate) have indeed committed a sacrilege. Say, "Does anyone possess even a bit of power to do anything against Allah? What if He wants to destroy the Messiah, (Jesus) son of Mary, his mother and all the living beings on the surface of the earth? The heavens and the earth and all else in between belong to Allah. He creates what He wills, and Allah is able to will everything |

| Farook Malik Indeed those have committed Kufr (rejected faith) who said, "God is the Messiah, son of Mary." O Muhammad, ask them, "Who has the power to prevent Allah if He chose to destroy the Messiah, the son of Mary, his mother and all that is in the earth? Allah has the sovereignty over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. He creates what He pleases and has power over everything |
| George Sale They are infidels, who say, verily God is Christ the son of Mary. Say unto them, and who could obtain any thing from God to the contrary, if he pleased to destroy Christ the son of Mary, and his mother, and all those who are on the earth? For unto God belongeth the kingdom of heaven and earth, and whatsoever is contained between them; he createth what he pleaseth, and God is almighty |
| Maududi Indeed those who said: ´Christ, the son of Mary, he is indeed God´, disbelieved. Say (O Muhammad!): ´Who could have overruled Allah had He so willed to destroy Christ, the son of Mary, and his mother, and all those who are on earth?´ For to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; He creates what He wills. Allah is All-Powerful |
